This game is unreasonably demanding to execution
I like fighting games for the mindgame and the need to think and predict fast, but I hate them for ridiculously difficult 100-hit combos that you can accidentally drop and get punished. I play solo Parasoul (can't imagine how do people play multiple characters) and I can do her bnb once out of, maybe, five tries, even though I spent good 8-10 hours in training room practicing it. All my online matches consist of ducking and jumping randomly in hopes of fishing for my LP in so I can at least attempt to do my bnb. My fingers hurt from all the mashing, I tried timed button presses but it made me drop it even more. Just a few minutes ago I lost a match because I failed to input Silent Scope in time, it got blocked and I died from the punish.

So tell me - what's the appeal of the game? How do I enjoy it? Is there a secret technique to employ so my combos suddenly start working? Is there some special way of learning them?

well for starters i feel the button input window for combos in this game is much larger than in other fighting games. it's a pretty generous window. try and slow down while you are doing combos. maybe you'll find it easier then.

Rythm.
If you're having such a hard time doing your BnB, you're probably doing something wrong. Watch some Parasol vids and see if u can find some where you can hear the button presses. Rythm is a great aid in learning combos.
Here's the channel of a good Parasol player, maybe it helps: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCglDB87yRIO7druwPcyyqSQ

What helps a lot also is to practice combos in small chunks. If you drop it so often, do the first part so long until you don't drop it anymore. Same for the other parts, then put it all together. It's called your BnB, because it's meant to be there, always, when you need it. Spend more time in training room.

This game has the easiest execution out of any fighting game I have ever played (SF's got harder motions and 1f links and KOF has WAY harder motions and stricter input windows)- not to say you're wrong, because everyone experiences difficulty in different areas of course, but that statement is...questionable in that form.

The window for execution is really generous in my opinion, try a character like Rufus in SF4 whos bnb is requires you to pull off a 1-frame link and you'll see how forgiving it is.

Keep practicing the basics before you delve into combos, it's a tedious process doing 50 of the same command but when you're sure that you wont do the wrong input anymore, it makes the game a lot easier.

Same appeal as any other fighting game. They might just not be for you.

If you're having trouble doing a character's BnB then it's probably time to cut your losses and simplify the combo that you're trying to do. BnB's are supposed to be simple, go-to combos that you can pull off in any situation, not necessarily optimal.

Do not use keyboard to play FTG if you can..that's the deal..

The input window might be big, but there's too many of them in a combo.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

There's hardly any combos that have you do more than one 1f link in SF and sometimes you can just drop them from the combo and lose no more than 15% total damage (with a few exceptions though). Some characters barely even use any combos at all, M. Bison for one.

What do you mean by "basics"? If you mean command motions then I have no trouble with those on their own (except 360's. they're somewhat tricky to do on a keyboard).

Anything more complex than a chain combo + special already introduces a margin for error, and a chain combo + special won't do any serious damage.

Because why exactly? Only one character has a 360 command and that's the only one tricky (not impossible though) to do.

The long-ass combos are not what the game is about at all.
Just last night I won 8 matches in a row with my longest combo being 5 hits! It's all about mix-ups and faking your movements to catch the opponent making mistakes and punishing them for it
game has a pretty generous window for combos

either your ping is bad, you set up the frame delay wrongly, or you've got some 1 frame combo links going on that can't be pulled off online due to lag.

cause objectively speaking this game is easier to combo in than any other game.

What sage said.

The only cerebella combo I know is 10 moves long (all normals). I win plenty of games with cerebella even without knowing any long combos.

I also am not a combo fighter, I dislike the crazy long combos, and thanks to SG being cool, you can really have multiple play styles.

i used to run solo parsoul, shes a good choice for solo since she can do pretty much everything plus damage! but that being said... are you using her most optimal combos and openers? lp isnt the only way for her to start her combo. she can launch after her overheads, lows, after the cycle guy grabs your opponnet (postioning pending) and through jumping hp among other ways. she also can really good ground normals too. (forward hp and crouching mk to name a few)

though knowing good damaging combos certainly does help especially if you fear that your opponent knows how to deal with your resets, its really not too important to learn once you're starting to learn this game. I've had this game since release and I still don't know the most optimal combos for my team but I still win a ♥♥♥♥ load of matches by doing resets and capitalizing on my oponents mistakes.

You probably haven't tried Street Fighter yet. This is the game where timing in combos is so strict that it takes a while to even link 2 hits.
So, in my opinion. input restrictions in Skullgirls are minimized. The window between moves is just huge and a lot of moves can be cancelled ridiculously. Personally I was amazed by such a gigantic amount of combo possibilities.

Yeah, Street Fighter has always been very unforgiving. That's why I prefered Mortal Kombat II way back when. I only got Street Fighter IV because my options are pretty limited on PC and it's just as unforgiving as II was. I'm finding Skullgirls to be pretty forgiving as far as input commands go, so I don't know what this guy is talking about unless it's just because he's using a keyboard.
