The worst written story in the entire SaGa series
I understand a focused story telling experience isn't what SaGa games are about, but that's part of the reason why I loved these games. Just let me get straight to exploration and combat.

Now the writing is constantly in your face with visual novel dialogue section. You're shown exactly where to go, no exploration at all. Very little combat unless you want to sit there and repeat the same easy fights.

Just a massive disappointment

Reviews have sunk down to 70% positive already. Quickly becoming the lowest reviewed SaGa game on steam.

Toad. Thank you for your thoughts. So far I haven’t gotten much in to the story. I finished Ameya and now I’m working on diva. I personally loved the feel of ameya’s story. You are in a frozen land with hidden dangers. The cat thing was funny. Can someone help me understand why a lot of Japanese love cats?

I found the story in ameyas game to be interesting and it hits at something more sinister.

Not Japanese, but I know in their big cities living space is extremely limited. Dogs take space because they are more active. Even a small dog, you need to walk it an such.

A cat just lives there, you only have to feed it and it gives you companionship. Also, cats have the big eyes, small nose/mouth aesthetic that a lot of anime designs go for.

Just my 2 cents on the matter, not an authority by any means.

"Very little combat" is, like, one of the worst ways to describe this game. Over 90% of the time of the average run is going to be spent in combat.

You arte not wrong, that said the games story gets more engaging and explains more on repeated playthroughs with the same character. That may or may not be to anyones liking.

Guess it depends on the worlds you visit from what I'm seeing now. Some worlds it's a truckload of combat encounters one after the other. And other worlds it's excessive visual novel time with battles sprinkled in.

TIL that SaGa Emerald Beyond has "very little combat".

filtered by boredom?

Don't think that's a good reason to filter players

Not surprised, this might be one of the SaGa games that got more attention, thus more people tried it. Being a SaGa game, always expect people to love it or hate it.

So I have spent thirty or so hours I think with the game. Over all I’m still enjoying it but I am agree with the TC about the story.

It’s god awful. The story written for pre teens cause it sure feels like it. Over all I still give the game a B,B+ Divas story has been lame and I feel like a stupid fetch bot. I did all the blue portal quests and all except the pirate one was good. I dunno. Maybe I am getting too old to be gaming.

I wasn’t a fan of Diva’s either…but Mido’s story was what sold me on this game. I sunk 20 hours being determined to beat all brutal divine elemental spirits.

I actually found that this game has lots of battles. Ameya not so much when I played hers, but I was at a Providece area and had 8-12 doors and each had a battle and the last was a unique boss that seemed to tie some mystery into the game.

And the way some things have interlinked between characters, I’m really enjoying this as my favourite SaGa so far.

I played bonnie and formina first and I felt this way initially.

I don't think those characters are done well story wise. They don't have much backstory or much character development honestly. Their overarching story is not that compelling, and their adventure along the way is not interesting either. It feels like they are thrust into situations in any given world for no real reason. It was also a bad idea to foist three cats on them as their initial party instead of giving them a more interesting party like Ameya's, Siugnas's or Diva's.

But on a playthrough with Siugnas, I'm enjoying things much more. He has actual characters and the way he approaches problems is more entertaining. I also feel like, either by lucky chance or deliberate choice, the worlds have been much more interesting with them. In bonnie and formina's playthrough I got almost no new characters until the end of the game. Moreover, the story in each world felt totally detached from them. Playing with Siugnas's group, I've had a much better experience with every world, and some of the ones I revisited were totally different but always in a good way.
