Awful UI - a direct-to-mobile product
Big icons, the shape of icons, icons always visible on screen ...

You can tell this is just a direct port from mobiles... What a shame.

This is the same series, from the same developers, and the same producers, in the same engine, as Scarlet Grace. A game which had two UI to account for the diversity of the platforms it was on.

Like all SaGa games, the plot is a standalone because Kawazu just doesn't believe in retreading that ground ground ever, but if you played Scarlet Grace you have a good idea what to expect of this, and they've highlighted the main differences. It is digital only in the West (like Scarlet Grace), but is a regular priced retail release in Japan (like Scarlet Grace).

In English, saying something like "FFVIII was an interesting follow up to FFVII" absolutely works. It really doesn't imply sequel.

Literally every SaGa game in this modern revival project era has had a mobile version, in many cases as a simultaneous release.

Romancing SaGa 2 (console/PC ports a year after mobile)
Romancing SaGa 3 (simultaneous)
SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions (simultaneous, although JP release was before EN)
SaGa Frontier Remastered (simultaneous)
Collection of SaGa (PC port a month after mobile)
Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered (simultaneous)

Kawazu and Ichikawa's team looks like they've decided to develop these games for multiple consoles, PC, and mobile at roughly the same time. I won't argue that the UIs are always perfect across all versions, because they are not, but this is like the sixth or seventh go around here, nothing new. Minstrel Song's UI in particular was actually a big improvement from the PS2 version.

Fun fact for fun: Stuff like Legend of Mana, Trials of Mana (2020), and The Last Remnant Remastered got mobile ports later on. I don't know if any of those are any good!

The Last Remnant isn't bad on mobile. It's a bit clunky, but it works if you have a decent phone. I like to have some offline games when I commute, so I hope the mobile version (if there is going to be one), allows offline play without hassle of needing to be connected to data plan in order to log in.

I actually like the UI. My only gripe is that it doesnt have any touch functionality on switch. Scarlet grace had tooltips and stuff when touching ui elements on screen.
