DRS Problem?
I can't use DRS while racing, it works on pratice and qualify, but on the race it doesn't (and all the other rivals use it).
Even when i'm like, 5 seconds behind i can't open it on the DRS section of the track. I've been playing on 25%.
Is it a bug?

You have to be within 1 second of the driver in front and in the DRS zone to use it.

Watch the DRS video in the young drivers test.

You have to be less than 1 sec behind the car in front of you. What is more, this has to be the case at the DRS detection point. Only if that's the case, you will be able to open DRS on the next straight after the DRS line. As BassPunk said, watch the DRS video again.

True, In qualifying and free practice you can always use DRS but within the race there's a DRS activation line at certain points on the tracks where you have to be within 1 second of your opponent to activate the DRS. That's why overtaking in Formula 1 is more common these days.
You didn't saw that in the earlier years with Michael Schumacher and Ferrari around 2001`.

Your welcome, this rule makes defending your position a lot harder too but that's what's racing is all about right.

The thing that gets me is, is it 1 second behind at the Detection point? or the activation point?
TrafficWarden Sep 22, 2012 @ 11:16am
1 second behind at the detection point.

Well, i just made a race and i was 8 seconds behind the guy.. couldn't open the DRS, and the guy behind me was opening it and getting closer than i would like at the drs zone :/

If you are more than 1 second behind at the detection point you wont be allowed to open it but if you are 1 second or less behind the car infront at the detection point you will be allowed to open it at the DRS zone.

watch the video ... our opponets could open it, if they were 1 second or closer to you at the detection point. Activation point is where you can open it, if you got the "go" at the detection point.

A lot of people have said this time and time again, but it might be that Hass is not fully understanding the usage of DRS in F1.

DRS in Practice and Qualifying is open to anyone at anytime. There are no rules to this other than if the weather changes to rain/wet. If the latter happens then DRS is disabled for the session unless stated.

In the RACE session DRS can ONLY be used by someone who is 1 (ONE) second behind the car in front of him. The computers will detect the GAP between the two cars in question at a set detection point (a certain distance away from the DRS zone). This will give the correct driver a signal that tells them DRS is enabled for him in the DRS zone.

Wet/Rain conditions will disable any use of DRS throughout the session unless Race Control renables it if conditions improve to DRY.

TL:DR - You must be 1 second behind the car in front of you to use the DRS. Other people that are 1 second behind you can also use DRS.
