Ranged weapons are too strong
With the exception of the crossbow, ranged tiles across the board offer way too much utility compared to melee tiles, especially the kunai. This is mainly due to their ability to chip bosses without getting into danger, and the fact that it can counter spearmen, dashers, and ranged attackers without having to move first. This is especially pronounced on the shadow, where you can just dash all the way into a corner and be safe for the rest of the fight.

I would like to see the kunai multi-attack skill perhaps be moved to a melee skill to rebalance this, as well as perhaps creating a free-play melee attack to offset the movement cost.

100% agree. The runs that feel very easy to me always involve at least one, usually 2 or more, ranged weapons. I love that they exist but they do need balance. There are many ways to do this - limit to one ranged weapon per run, just increase cooldowns substantially, introduce more "reload" mechanics like crossbow, give each weapon a unique "max range" or damage falloff, give some enemies shield vs. ranged attacks. Lots of options, I'm interested to see if or how they balance this out.

Ranged weapon combos can be strong. But not very strong. See, especially on the later 'days' of the game I prever weapons with functionality and combo potential. I skip the musket, shuriken, kunai and crossbow as well as the arrow.

The potential for those weapons is extremely low. The crossbow needs big damage numbers and low cooldown. That's barely achievable on day 4 as well, I assume, later after that.

On day 1 I do win without loosing anything. Even having runs with musket-double strike and when you combo, the tile which combo'd instantly refreshes.

But, you need at least 1 ranged attack if you don't own any attacks that help you avoid damage from ranged enemies, or enemies that can get instantly to you doing damage.

The only weapon that can be good as ranged is kunai, especially with the electricity modification and multiple attacks. But for that to work, enemies have to stand together. The only weapon that's really strong, and it has to be, is the double-sword.

But, if this mod get modability, you could start to look into modding and make the ranged weapons more channeling for yourself! I would like to see such a thing too. Especially weapon challenge variety and/or custom starting loadouts.

I just completely obliterated a run with a Kunai upgraded to 6 damage and the combo skill that resets the cool down on the weapon that delivers the killing blow. Also had the combo skills that gave extra money for combo kills and health back for triple combos. With the double-sided sword upgraded to 6 damage I melted every wave. It was a ton of fun.

Melee weapons often have better damage. Their burstiness outweighs chip damage when you try to avoid getting hit. Best weapon imo is the spear, ideally with combo recharge. It also makes dash really powerful.
