why doesn't the game fit on the screen?
i have it set to the same resolution as the other 104 games i play on steam, so it's not something im just ignorant about, like "are you sure your using the right resolution"

but first time playing, the tutorial it cuts off the text on the top, no matter if i pick small, normal or whole screen, just on small less is cut off,

and then actually in game the character portraits on the left are cut off in half from the left side, putting it to small in here actually allows me to see the whole screen, but then it only takes up like 3/4's of my monitor,,

anything?

Yeah, I had the same problem. Apparently (after looking it up on their forums), it's something to do with Windows DPI scaling!
You have to go in the program folder (steam \ steamapps \ common \ avernum ... )
and right click on the EXE file. Then go to Properties > Compatibility
There, you should see a checkbox for Disable scaling something or other. Check it.

Now you can play at whatever resolution and it will work.

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what the game does that provokes this, but there we are.
It gets scaled because of your Windows DPI settings (mine was at 150%; go check yours and you'll see).

Weirdest thing I've had happen in a long time!

I'm trying to play in a lower res but every time I set it to a lower rez than 4K the game starts and I hear the music but the screen is black.

Yeah, I still get a black screen. I can play other games at this rez just not this one. There has to be a fix.
