I'm a developer myself, not in the gaming industry, but due to that I know how hard it is to add "moddability" to a software product AFTER its already made. Didn't want to offend you or anything man, you made outstanding work with this game, I just wanted to tell the guy that there are quite a few (mostly) Unity games outthere that have extended modding. From importing 3d models (With a custom importer) to custom configuration files. Software Inc and Rimworld both using TYD files for their mods. When it comes to code, both use their own approach but it's pretty similar. Code in Unity can also edited with things like Harmony, if you don't have any modding tools delivered. There are also quite a few opensource Unity modding plugins to use, but most use their own, often, basic modding support.
Thank you for your words and valuing my work!
That is one of the problems, apart from implementing such a system it would be, at least for my abilities as a developer, a very complicated task.
To prevent these types of modifications from being made that affect the leaderboard system, it would also be necessary to implement some system that would avoid it and that is not easy at all once you expose the parameters of the vehicles.
I don't know if from the player's point of view that seems simple, but it is not.
But yeah, I agree with ya that giving people the freedom to add their own cars into the game would not only be a complicated task, but it would also ruin the balancing of the game. However, might I suggest that you could do something games like CarX Drift Racing Online does (Which is a game made in Unity), and give people the freedom to give already existing cars in your game custom liverys/skins, or and new car models without affecting the cars performance/stats and give people the freedom to make their own custom maps, so that people can enjoy how their car looks and what track they drive on without compromising the balance of the game, and see how things go from there.
I'm not saying that it is going to be an easy task, I know there is a complicated process to add something like this, HOWEVER it should be something to think about if you do come back to add more content into this game. You could also collab with other Unity Modders like people who made the Kino mod and the ZML Mods for CarX, if you're not comfortable doing this on your own, I'm sure there are people out there who are willing to help you out with adding mods into this game.
However I do understand that if you want to keep the game as vanilla as possible to give it that classic rally car racing feel as well, and I respect that too. Just thought I add my thoughts to the topic.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
