Mods ?
I just want to open the discussion about modding, like is there any way to mod the game/make it moddable ? I'm not a modder myself but a small game with such a high potential would definitely benefit from mods (obviously the leaderboards would've to be disabled entirely for any modified version of the game lol) I'm mainly thinking about cars and tracks mods but maybe some people would come up with some more unique stuff

Would be awesome if you could create custom tracks, cars or game modes but I've never seen a unity or unreal game with mod support, always seems to be games done in a custom engine.

For players it is something very attractive, but unfortunately very difficult to carry out, so at least for now its implementation is not included in the plans.

Rimworld, Kerbal Space Program, Cities Skylines and Software Inc are all made in Unity and extremly moddable.

You are talking about games with a budget and teams in some cases of more than 10 people, not about a game with a $0 budget and one person in charge of all development as is my case. Not everything can be seen from the consumer's point of view.

Rimworld and Software Inc are one person projects, but those projects were made with modding in mind from the beginning.
I'm a developer myself, not in the gaming industry, but due to that I know how hard it is to add "moddability" to a software product AFTER its already made. Didn't want to offend you or anything man, you made outstanding work with this game, I just wanted to tell the guy that there are quite a few (mostly) Unity games outthere that have extended modding. From importing 3d models (With a custom importer) to custom configuration files. Software Inc and Rimworld both using TYD files for their mods. When it comes to code, both use their own approach but it's pretty similar. Code in Unity can also edited with things like Harmony, if you don't have any modding tools delivered. There are also quite a few opensource Unity modding plugins to use, but most use their own, often, basic modding support.

Maybe I'm expressing myself wrong, I would love for people to make their own cars, for example. But as much as we want to rely on people's good will, we all know that from day one someone would modify a car to make it run like a rocket and ruin the entire leaderboard system.

Thank you for your words and valuing my work!

It goes without saying that a modded vehicle shouldn't have a spot on the leaderboards anyway so that's definitely not the issue

Of course, those things are what we would have to implement and it is very complicated. By opening that possibility to people they would find a way to do it or modify an existing one and you know it! Haha!

That is one of the problems, apart from implementing such a system it would be, at least for my abilities as a developer, a very complicated task.

To prevent these types of modifications from being made that affect the leaderboard system, it would also be necessary to implement some system that would avoid it and that is not easy at all once you expose the parameters of the vehicles.

I don't know if from the player's point of view that seems simple, but it is not.

I know that this is a 9 month old discussion, but I would love to add my few cents in to this topic, since I just got into this game and I love what this game brings to the arcade racing genre.

But yeah, I agree with ya that giving people the freedom to add their own cars into the game would not only be a complicated task, but it would also ruin the balancing of the game. However, might I suggest that you could do something games like CarX Drift Racing Online does (Which is a game made in Unity), and give people the freedom to give already existing cars in your game custom liverys/skins, or and new car models without affecting the cars performance/stats and give people the freedom to make their own custom maps, so that people can enjoy how their car looks and what track they drive on without compromising the balance of the game, and see how things go from there.

I'm not saying that it is going to be an easy task, I know there is a complicated process to add something like this, HOWEVER it should be something to think about if you do come back to add more content into this game. You could also collab with other Unity Modders like people who made the Kino mod and the ZML Mods for CarX, if you're not comfortable doing this on your own, I'm sure there are people out there who are willing to help you out with adding mods into this game.

However I do understand that if you want to keep the game as vanilla as possible to give it that classic rally car racing feel as well, and I respect that too. Just thought I add my thoughts to the topic.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but the possibility to create and customise your own skins for existing cars already exists.

Is it? I wasn't aware of it until now, I was only aware that you can only change the colors of your car in-game, and not give it it's own custom livery/skin. So is that like a mod or something?

Hi, it's a feature that has been implemented in the game, all the information here:

Ah, I did not know this was a thing, thanks! However I wasn't talking about just the skin, but the model itself, like in CarX Drift Racing Online, people make mods in there so that they can change the actual model of the car without it impacting it's performance. Also, this might be asking for too much, but would it be possible for specific cars to be converted to a rally car? Because I've tried racing with the Raven Eileen on some rally maps but it wouldn't let me, which is a shame since it's real life counterpart (The Toyota Trueno AE86) Is considered a Touge car and by extension a Rally Car (Since Touge and Rally basically the same thing in their principles).
I just want to see my car in a game lol would be cool to see it in this setting
