The game is winnable with every faction but of course some factions are better at "certain" victory conditions then others (picture the Cravers trying to win a diplomatic victory....you know what I mean).
So if theres a "tier" like.....Faction A is better then faction B then it certainly only counts for yourself and for a specific scenario....change either and you ll have a different tier list.
What I m trying to say is.....the factions in ES are different, not better or worse. Thats their key element.
Take Master of Orion 1 for example. Each race is different and every game varies greatly between one another, but overall it's much easier to win as Psilons or Klackons than, say, Darloks or Mrrshans.
Just wondering what are the easier and harder factions. Or are you saying that they're all perfectly balanced and it's just as easy to win as any of them? Surely that's not the case.
Good: cravers, sophons, hissho, horatio
Average: united empire, vaulters
Bad: automatons, amoeba, pilgirms, sherdyn
Sowers and harmony you cant really categorise because they play very atypically. If you try and play them normally they will be terrible but if you adapt your playstyle they are quite good.
No there is no perfect balance, neither is one faction "better" or "worse" then another. Each default faction provided is an example of a "working" base which will support a different playstyle. I believe they are mainly in the game to give you a knoledge platform for the time when you start creating your own factions.
If you are asking "which faction is the easiest to learn and use for a newcomer overall?" then my answer would be (in that order starting with the easiest)
United Empire
Amoeba
Sophons
Sowers
These are the factions which have pretty straight-forward affinities and unique race abilities which dont need any handling on your part but are supporting you nevertheless.
The hardest factions for me (notice how my list differs from Mrrshan68s) would be
Cravers
Harmony
Automatons
Harder doesnt mean "worse" it just means that using these factions to their full potential needs a hefty knowledge base on your part and these factions have specific abilities that need to be used in specific ways in orde to be successfull.
Thats a problem because a "win" is identified by meeting one of the victory conditions. If you dont meet any of them (you can uncheck them all) you have an endless game ahead of you where you can end up alone on the map after you eliminated every other faction down to the last ship and the game still wouldnt declare you "winner"
Every faction can win via every victory condition but some factions are better at certain victory conditions then others. Amoeba for example excel in peace and trade and a lot of their unique technologies support that playstyle further YET they are perfectly capable to achieve militaristic victories.
So if you are asking "which faction would be best suited to achieve victory condition X"
Then the list would look different every time depending on what X is.
What an outragious idea......you do reallize how long thatr would take?......post here if you ever finish this "Endless" project (if we are all still alive)
