Myst V (ver 1.2) on Win 11 - fails to launch correctly

I have recently bought the steam version (I did have a CD version over a decade ago and running on a 2005 ish windows PC)

My Current PC is an intel 9 based system with RTX 3090 graphics. All previous Myst Games work straight from download.

When I start Myst V EoA I get the "Laguage" selection menu box - English is default.

I click OK and get the Ubisoft start jingle and logo followed by the Cyan Worlds ones. Then there is a very brief screen flicker at the bottom and the game the freezes on a black screen. The pointed index finger mouse pointer is visible and follows the mouse, but that's all.

The game opens in a full screen window, but I cannot grab and drag the game window.

I cannot close the game either unless I "end task" in the task manager, where the game task only appears as "Main Branch - Built xx/xx/xxxx at xx:xx xx"

Ideas pleas? Help?

Please email [e-mail], and attach a complete copy of your system's dxdiag report to the email. They can troubleshoot the problem and may have a solution for you.

I had the same problem when first launching Myst V, but managed to play the game through on Win 11 Home on my rig (gaming laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 and GeForce 1650Ti, external 24" display through HDMI) with some tinkering.
First I found a small fix from internet (I think the same fix is mentioned / linked in this discussion site), but it didn't seem to help. The I did the following while running the game:
1. disconnected external display (Win + P -> laptop only)
2. changed the laptop's display resolution from native 1920 down to 1280 -> Myst V window showed up
3. changed the resolution in game options from 800 up to 1280
4. reconnected the external display (Win + P -> extended view)
5. dragged the game window to the external display
6. played the game in windowed mode (didn't even try full screen)
I finished the game without further hitches, so I hope others will find this comment at least somewhat helpful.
