Try verifying the game cache;
Right-click on the game in your Steam library, select properties, select the local files tab, and click “Verify Integrity of game cache”.
If that does not work back up save files and re-install.
For reinstalling;
First right click on the game in the Steam Library, select properties, select the local files tab, click “BACKUP GAME FILES”. Afterward click on “delete local game content” either in the tab or the right click menu.

As soon as I start a new game or attempt to continue a game slot, the game goes black after the initial loading bar and the stack error occurs.
I have tried the following solutions:
*Rebooting the computer
*Uninstalling/Reinstalling, multiple times
*Deleting all save data, reinstalling
*Trying default settings, as well as minimum settings
*Updating every single driver imaginable, making sure they are all working correctly
*Setting Myst V exe to run in compatibility mode for Win 98, Win XP (SP 2 and 3 as well), Win Vista, Win 7 and Win 8
*Closing all background processes (except mandatory ones)
*All of the above in combination, several times
*Covering my breakfast in tears of anguish and frustration
*Sacrifices to the dark lord C'thulu, blessed be his reign
My computer exceeds minimum specs for Myst V in all regards, and is capable of playing higher spec games quite well.
I'd really appreciate any links, help or advice. I've heard of a few patches that people used to fix the issue on various operating systems, but all the links I could find were no longer active.
Depending on the patches you are thinking of doing it is unclear if they would have the desired impact as Cyan's updates have rendered the ones I am familiar with obsolete. Sacrifices to C'thulu so far only resulted in me sprouting tentacles so I generally advise against it.
Since you know how to update drivers I am guessing you probably know to check for windows updates as well but just in case, if you have not done so I would make sure that it is set to windows update to update all Microsoft products, some components are important to games.
Other things if you have not already done so, do an integrity check of windows, disk check, and see if any of the drivers have errors.
If any of these things result in corrections I would see if the games works afterwards ,if not trying doing a complete re-install one more time.
If still not working after trying those things I would email Cyan support(It may be a little while before they can get back with you though they have a number of messages to go through)

After clicking a slot to start the game, I was receiving the following error. I found that if I turned down the "video quality" to ~1/3, the game finally started to run, but a downside is that the faces of characters don't have textures. At least the game works this way!

Use Windows “resource monitor” to see if the Myst V executable “eoa.exe” is trying to write something to the registry or perhaps a file location.
You may see several failures, the first error we found was a failed write to %userprofile%\documents”
Windows 10 security prohibits writes to that folder by default. Allowing the process access to the folder is the key to solving the problem.
