Constructing needs foundation to snap?
Do I have to have a foundation for snapping to occur? When I was building defense walls, they wouldn't snap. I could also clip walls through rocks and other barriers without issue.

Defensive walls and stuff on the Fence-looking tab don't snap. The building/housing pieces do.

The snap-to functions are a bit wonky, for example it seems like the only way to get stairs to go in the middle of a floor or foundation reliably is to put a doorway down first so the stairs will attach in the middle of the floor or foundation then remove the doorway. For me this trick only works for the full stairs, the half set don't go where I want them to go no matter what I do. Can't even put them on the outside foundation of my base leading to the ground, it just won't let me position the stairs properly.

Yep, and anything I place on a wall stays there if enemies destroy the wall. Had a picture just floating in mid-air today... assume they'll eventually fix that as development continues.

After the small update I can now longer snap new functions to my existing base.
I was trying to expand the base but no new function will snap on. I can still remove and add walls to existing base.
So i build a function away from my base as a test, and was able to snap functions to that, but not my existing base.

That is very interesting, didn't know that.

I too noted that positioning was a pain. I can't "push" objects forward or back but only move back myself but I feel like I'm a mile away trying to build a house.

Another oddity that needs a tutorial is that i was trying to complete a roof. One piece left but the damn game wouldn't let me place it. Finally realized I was missing a beam for the corner. It'd be great for the game to say "invalid, requires beam."
