I would not dispute that this is how you found it but you must remember that as with all open world games it's possible to go anywhere at any time so everyones experiences will be different.
A little game knowledge from playing more and it's absolutely not an issue.
So while I accept that this has been your experience it has not been mine at all.
If the game was more linear in nature than open world and everyones game came up short in rubber then there would be an issue. I am not saying it's a skill problem or to 'get gud' just that you got unlucky following a route that was light on rubber and that's all it is. Realistically it should be possible to find none at all if someone got real unlucky.
Currently the missions are not there like they used to be, Hopefully when the devs get around to redoing all of them they can ensure that fundamental things like building an air tank and compressor are in there early on and the mission points you in the direction of a stash of all the components you need. Just to get the things people might consider 'critical' built early on.
Have to wait and see what they do about it.
Fun detail: I did not post this because I had a problem.
I posted this because I've read at least three threads about people having a problem finding enough rubber, and it's always dismissed by people saying 'I have X rubber, this is not a problem'.
I posted mainly to say that the progression from the moment you want to upgrade to a tier 2 research table, to when you get the main useful items at tier 2 (small air tank and harpoon gun) takes ~50 rubber. After that, you no longer really need rubber, but that single 'climb' is pretty big. That, I believe, is the cause of such complaint threads. And the fact you find more and need less rubber after that, is why you get the unhelpful and vaguely bragging responses about 'I find enough rubber, I don't see the problem'. Added bonus points if you actually haven't started the game from scratch recently, because this is a kind of recent thing that people with older saves wouldn't even notice as much.
Just my opinion .. But hopefully they will come to their senses and make it good and FUN again.
I think many people can complain as this may be a random mechanism and sometimes it's just messy, and balance is not great as you said - you hit the wall till mid-game, next you have more than needed...
This is a box with the key in it - to get the harpoon gun, you need to have got most of the rubber you'll ever need. Tier 2 research, iron, air tank - that's what you need all the rubber for!
Okay. It might seem like I'm not interested in listening to tips about great places to find rubber. That's because I'm not. As previously stated, I do not need to find rubber. The problem I point out is that to get tier 2 techs that need iron, like that harpoon gun you mentioned, you basically need ~40 rubber.
That is going to make a lot of new players frustrated because without knowing where to find rubber, that's going to take a long, long time.
Only one of the places you mentioned are next to the castaway island, which is where new players are most likely to look.
It's nice of you to tell me where there is rubber. If anyone looks up this thread because they get frustrated finding rubber, it'll help them. Personally, I have vast quantities of rubber lying around. Once you get past that early hump, you kind of stop needing rubber - certainly in large quantities.
Basically the graph of where/when you find rubber, and how much you need, do not match at all, a fact the pointing out of which is the reason for this thread, in the hope that the developer will move 2-3 rubber nodes to the areas closer to castaway island. Not more rubber overall, because that is fine - perhaps even a bit much - but make getting it earlier in the gameplay timeline.
I haven't played in quite a few months, did they reduce the size of the storage containers since then?
