What food is easy to make and doesn't take as much to fill the container?

Mushrooms. Guaranteed three per planting, no seeds to worry about. Cabbage might work well too, but I use mushrooms.

Strawberries can be good if you have a bunch of planters growing them all the time.

Mushrooms are the best. They plant same way as the potatoes, but have a higher yield, as well as count the same for the biofuel lab

Red algae is best once you get underwater farming up. It's literally infinite.

For muti purpose reasons I say cabbages, you get 2 per harvest, 1-3 seeds, and sometimes bait. seeds and bait can be used to get fish and birds with the traps. However when making gas a cooked mushroom gives 12 value compared to mostly anything else that would give 9(minus baked potatos they give 10). If you don't care about fish and birds mushrooms and cabbages yield the same amount for making gas.

I wanted to follow up on my comment before, roasted bird gives 18 value and roasted fish(any kind), and roasted crab give 24 value.

Yep with the fish tank, 10 fish nets, 10 bird traps , add 10 or more mushroom planters and 10 red algae planters (which also drop crabs and scallop) you will have more than enough to make fuel and keep you full.
