The problem with unobtainable promises, is that there are many other alternative games that I can explore and build bases in. I really enjoy this game, but there absolutely has to be some major rebalancing done.
I would be extremely curious to know the statistics of who has, and has not crafted a modern gun because I guarantee it's less than 5% of all people who've paid for this game.
I agree, it seems as though good ideas are being presented but execution of the idea is poorly designed. I have the new gun bench and have fed it some gun parts. Seems the same gun parts just produce the same blueprints over and over again so nothing accomplished there. Fed some parts into the 3D printer at the trading post for some prints I didn’t recognize beyond that it’s a dead end trying to figure the rest of it out. If the old bench will still allow me to make a bolt action rifle and a pistol I can happily continue playing the game without trying to figure out all the BS tied to weapons customization.
They could have at least used the manual on the bench to step players through learning how to use the bench in the same fashion as the mission log. Poorly thought out, poorly executed.
That's a good spot to take a pause and craft your first proper gun.
I've managed to make a few guns; the blueprints you can buy at the trader's are the blueprints that drop extremely rarely/not at all, like pistol magazines.
I personally like the new gun crafting. It gives you a reason to go out and explore/conquer new territory in the hopes of finding a new part BP. I love that you can customize guns to have different characteristics.
I like the idea but am having trouble following the logic of the progression to building a weapon. It’s like they can’t get off the habit of solving everything with yet more blueprints and obscure ways of using them. Someone else did a pretty good write up in an earlier post which helped me somewhat. I’m guessing that once you make your first gun and you know the whole process it’s easier to deal with but it shouldn’t be that painful in the first place. There are much easier and more intuitive ways of adding gun customization to a game than having people scavenging multiples of the same blueprint and feeding the excess ones into an upgrade machine on some island to get a part they need and then still accumulate the parts to actually build the gun. I’m sure you have seen posts from people who simply gave up on the game and quit because it was no longer fun and that’s a sad statement for the future of the game in spite of its popularity.
Certainly, the implementation could be made to be more user friendly. But I think the problem stems from the idea that players want the best gun possible (or the gun they want the most) for the lowest amount of effort.
It needs to be said (reminded, really) that this is a survival game. You survive by what you find and are able to utilize. Anything "better" than what you have is just additional icing on top of the cake you're already eating. You don't need to have the best weapon to survive. It helps, sure-- but surviving is about making the best of what you have available. At least, that's what I find appealing about the current test build. If I happen upon a particular blueprint that helps me to survive-- sure, I'll craft a new weapon-- but it doesn't drive me that that must be what I look for and find.
I agree with all that. Had it been me on the development team I would have suggested adding a random low end part to the police car loot and less of the .45 bullets and shotgun shells. That way you can at least build a lower end weapon in the beginning for defense against the raiders. Then after getting maybe 5 of the same part at random I could feed them into the recycler at the bench along with a couple steel and maybe some rubber or glass to make the upgraded part. All the blueprints and stamp icons become a messy affair for a simple feature that can still present the same challenge.
Can i just say: Fallout 4....? As in crafting ??
Loved the Fallout series but don’t recall the crafting but then I think F4 was multiplayer and I only play single player. Ghost recon breakpoint was my only exception and loved that game too met mostly good players who had your back instead of weenies who liked to prank everyone.
I thought I read another post here that said you can detach components from the gun at the bench and then add the upgraded one but don’t quote me on that.
