Barring that, it sounds like you'll have to go further out into the world to find new trees. And if that doesn't sound good, make more planters. One of the basic ideas of this game is becoming self-sufficient, as your mission note says. That means being able to grow all your own stuff. Just so happens you can't do it through a glitch in the game system anymore ;)
they should be respawn again
if u not build home on the land at castaway island, the tree should respawn again, always check the ground too
The reason why I think this is because farming cotton is sustainable and farming wood isn't. You can plant bushes in a planter, but when you harvest the wood you'll get back fewer seeds for replanting than you started with. The reverse is true for cotton. It's also easier to harvest cotton as you can do it by hand rather than having to chop it down. Since you always get cotton seeds back, you can harvest and replant just by pressing 'F' twice. Place a bunch of planters in a suitable pattern and you can move along it gathering large amounts of cotton and planting the next crop on the way. Out of cotton, cloth and bandages, cloth is the most profitable trading item.
