How to load crossbow

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but how do I load the crossbow. I made crossbow bolts and they are in my inventory. I have the crossbow selected and I tried R for reload but the bolts don't load....what am I missing? Thanks

you don't need to equip them, just select crossbow and it will automatically use bolts

No it does not automatically use the bolts. I tried dragging them onto the Crossbow, left click them right click them even placed them in the hotbar. I have over 110 bolts, only the first one was loaded. no more will load. even started a new game same result. make it so you can use the "R" to reload them. or better yet make a Quiver where you can carry 30 bolts in it at a time and set it up to autoload. creating an independent system for them might allow it too work properly.

try to reinstall the game, it looks like something went wrong. you should be able to use all bolts just once they are in your inventory

Having the arrows in my inventory works fine, crossbow auto reloads after every shot.

I'm having the exact same problem....just got squared away with the crossbow today, made 20 bolts to get in some 'dink around/practice time', and I can't get the ammo to load to save my life! I've tried it with them in inventory, on my hot bar, some in both, I've tried using the "R" key (otherwise I pretty much stick to an xbox controller as much as possible), tried restarting steam, rebooting the whole computer, zip, zero, nada! It's a cool crossbow, but it would be a lot cooler if I could figure out how to get it to load...there's a nearby island with a few pirates hanging out that I'm sure would love to see it in action! :-(

That's odd. All I've ever had to do was draw the crossbow and it would automatically load. Try a bug report?

Any chance you are somehow accidentally trying to load arrows into a crossbow?

just fire the crossbow left mouse click if its empty it will atuo load the bolt

Well, evidently, at least in my case, there's a BIG chance! It's amazing how much better things work when you use the right equipment! I'd have sworn I made bolts, but I'd have been wrong...thanks...I owe ya one!

Tech support basics - check the simplest possible issues first.

In your defence it's not all that hard to grab or craft the wrong pointy looking ammo.
