Tips on Base Building?
Does anyone have any tips for base building to help with raids?

On my first run through (lasted 3 hours), I made a hodgepodge base of wooden and metal foundations off the "starter island". Initially, this seemed okay as the waves of mutants were small and they were unarmed.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or intentional, but once I upgraded my research bench to Tier 2, the mutants came outfitted with weapons (clubs, spears, and crossbows). They were shredding through my wooden foundation. Most of my base was in the water, so barriers didn't do much.

This next go around I think I'm going to make the foundations out of metal, and build the second floor out of wood. At first I thought wood would be a rare material, but it's actually pretty plentiful.

Anyone have additional tips? Thanks!

Metal is usually what I use since scrap metal is pretty plentiful and have 2500 hitpoints of damage that can be taken per section. Are they attacking from under your base in the water, bypassing your barriers?

What type of defenses did you build? AS for the water, it is useful to use wall spikes

One trick I've used to good success in early game where metal is still hard to come by is to build a buffer zone of foundations 2-3 pieces thick beyond my actual base walls. Enemies tend to beat on those first giving you additional time to deal with them before they actually damage your key walls and interior furniture.

If you happen to build these foundations high enough to walk under at a crouch, you can sneak under the outlying foundation walls and use a spear to effectively deal with attacking enemies without taking hardly any damage at all.

Rumour has it they struggle to get up ladders.

Build your base on top of large rocks for example the large rock at the starter island so that its harder for the enemies to attack most of your foundations. Make sure the enemies know where your entrance and door is. Build a ladder at the foundation with door so that the enemy think that they can enter your base through that door. Then build wall spikes on every walls near the door. By doing this, pretty much every melee enemies will get stuck at your front door unable to do anything due to the wall spikes. The ranged enemies can still cause some damage to your base but they are easy to kill from window walls.

Thanks for the tips! I didn't really have many defenses in the portion of my base in the water.

same here , wondering how much stronger they will get, thinking of relocation in the water, but they do swim and shoot arrows, any tricks to built in the water or on top of stuff, on rocks might be a good way, pics welcome, as there isn`t much pics out yet

I am built on a large rock... they still shred the ladder and base. They come to often, I spend all my time farming metal, rebuilding, defending.. they should go away during the day or something... Dont upgrade your bench until you have a really good base. easy to kill the melee mutants from your roof, but the cross bow mutants are way too much early game... they do not miss.

i saw a vid, dev`s built on the skyscrapper, i might also and built a defence around it, templer would have 2 walls around the main building, its a sure way of killing everything, i might go that way if i see there to much of a pest

I built my base right in the middle of the trader's island, the pontoons block enemies trying to get at the Foundation, the enemies don't seem to get onto the trader island so they just stay in the water and you can attack from underneath them, also idk if it works or not but I wanted to try and build a base where the sharks roam to see if the sharks attack the enemies

mm, not a bad idea to built on traders island, if u can, didn`t think u could, as i got frustrated today, just relocated and had not even the floor done, slap a stove, bench and a few chess, then they show up, there to powerful for my puny xbow, gun blazing and they again destroyed almost all, reloaded and barly managed to escaped with the loot, i got 8 ships, using them as storage, until i get a building secure, man how does a base get activated as a base, what is needed????
They do raid quite often but I stayed on the starter island and built into the big rock. My house is 2 story I can walk out the top and be on top of the big rock. Makes dealing with these chumps much easier. Build everything out of metal. On the map there's a % sign next to each location letting you know theres stuff there. Farm build and repair with the hammer. You can even heal your base while they are shooting. I have the percussion pistol right now it takes a while to kill them but the window walls are your best friend provide plenty of cover while you reload each shot.

I built on water 6by 6 2 story 4 doors then I made a moat of platforms and walled it off but I'm finding out enemies pop through crack in barrier walls , gonna use reinforced steel walls instead . Gota figure out how to prevent them from phasing through walls . They destroy spikes pretty fast. I've considered the bridge but it's not in the center of map .Best way to get fast loot is constant save and quit , don't ever fully collect a resource save and quit ,reload if u need steel find a scrap pile in a dumpster youl get 14 steel. Also works for getting blueprints . Ashbourne outpost I got copter, and most best blueprints . Weapons I use shotgun bolt action rifle , grenades work great .
