How to get "Leather"?

I've done a fair bit of exploring but I need to get leather for the military backpack. I have no idea how to get it aside from maybe hammerhead sharks? Though hammerheads do a ridiculous amount of damage even with substantial armor so I haven't been able to find out myself. If anyone knows where/how to get leather or has any ideas for me to try, please let me know

Do you know what island specifically or what kind of loot crate contained the leather?

Thanks I'll look into that. Only gotten Cloth and wood from furniture so far but maybe leather is a rare drop...

Would be nice in the future of the game to have land animals like deer and boars maybe even bears and rabbits. Hunt them for meat and hide to make leather out of

Definitely got leather from couch although there is another variety of couch, more common, that doesn't give leather. I did find couches with a leather yield within the apartments POI. Not sure where else though

At the Apartments, there is a leather couch that you can scavenge for some.

Hi Closed_sub_Eclipse! :) I had been running into the same problem, but when swimming around inside the buildings in the Apartments, I came across one that looked fuller, more stuffed than the other couches that I'd been coming across. This one yielded me three pieces of leather. Keep an eye out for the puffier ones, and those should give you what you're looking for. Happy hunting! :D

There's two of those leather couches at the school as well, however be aware that a shark spawns in there, in the staircase to be exact. He is kicking ass and taking names.
