When inviting a friend to play co-op, ensure that they have their game launched beforehand to avoid some potential server joining issues.

Join your friends by searching the server in the server list.

EDIT: Crashed again, twice after I suddenly started moving/swimming faster.
Then the game froze.
I can't connect again. Probably it's waiting for an autosave on the host?
Maybe patience is a virtue after all.
This time, the host couldn't immediately start a new game even. He's getting network errors now.

He just tried with Japan region, and could create a new game.

AND I'M BACK IN - finally, yohoo!!!!!

For what it's worth, I could join before when the host was invisible on Steam and having his profile game details on private.

Today, after I crashed, I couldn't rejoin, we restarted a lot. Nothing worked.

It wasn't until the host changed to visible and/or his game detail to friends, I could join again through invite.
