What happened to controller support??!
I don't typically buy games unless they have at least partial controller support. I was excited enough for this one I actually had it on my calendar. Kept checking back to see if it was released yet. Finally it's available... but there's no controller support?!

I know I didn't overlook something this big. Here's the proof--snapshot by the Waybackmachine YESTERDAY: https://web.archive.org/web/20230824060212/https://store.steampowered.com/app/2080690/Sunkenland/

So disappointed... guess I won't be buying on release day now. I hate screwing around with mapping and having to remember what I mapped everything to. "Partial" controller support is usually tolerable for most games, but the fact that it was purposefully removed gives me a bad feeling.

I've heard ALL the arguments. Yes, it's hard to implement controller support after the fact if you didn't design the game to support it. Yes, it's tricky to figure out how to map everything in a controller-friendly setup. But lots of games with some fairly complicated UI and game mechanics have found ways to do it---some less gracefully than others, but if the game is fun, people will play it anyway.

I'm definitely not writing off the game because it looks great, but for today I guess I'm going with the OTHER game I've had my eye on... the full-priced $60 game I was going to wait for a sale to buy. Yes, I'm willing to spend a lot more money on a different game for this singular reason. Developers, take note---you want people to buy your game, plan to implement controller support from the very beginning, because there are so many sales hinging on it.

So what is your disability? Takes 2 hands to use a controller. Is it I can't figure out a mouse and keyboardidis. Seems to be a big problems with couch potatoes nowadays.

Plenty reasons people don’t want to use keyboard doesn’t make them lazy or couch potatoes or they can’t use it maybe they just prefer a controller

Bad enough when developers only think of PC mainstream with WASD.
The keyboard cannot be freely assigned. A NO GO.
I'm not sure what you mean... it doesn't seem like a game geared for kids, and we're all sitting here in front of our computers. "Couch potato" would be someone who mindlessly watches TV. Most gamers will argue that playing games requires skill and intellect.

Most people have played console games. Many of them also play PC games because no console will ever have ALL the games, and there's a big collection of indie games that are worth playing but never make it to any consoles. Consoles aren't always backwards compatible, and I'd rather repurchase all my favorite console games on PC than have to hook up one of 6 different consoles if I want to play it again. Controller support isn't a new thing, and most people tend to expect it at this point.

That being said, I also understand the keybinding frustration for keyboard. It's common enough that people who rely on it come to expect it. The core issue here is the same -- and people don't want to learn a whole new configuration for every game they play, especially when some developers insist on making choices like... assigning "guard" or "dodge" to one of the universal attack buttons, and binding "attack" to a button more commonly used for "jump" or "confirm."

We all just want to play our games without immersion-breaking frustration due to awkward controls or physical pain due to... long gaming hours because the game was actually that fun to play. If sitting in front of a computer screen for several hours still makes us couch potatoes, then Steam is running the world's most profitable potato farm, because all the gamers of the world have flocked to it---and we brought our money with us. Meet our basic standards, and we'll gladly hand it over.

I don't have a disability, but some people do. I'm physically capable and have played all kinds of PC games with a keyboard and mouse. The problem? It's painful. I messed up my shoulders pretty bad at my last job, and something about the keyboard+mouse setup with most games aggravates them all over again.

My choices are:
1. Play games with keyboard+mouse and be in physical pain for the next 2 days... every time I play one of those games for more than 15 minutes
2. Play games with a controller, which does not cause pain
3. Not play any games at all

Realistically, how many people would actually prefer #1 or #3 when #2 is an option? That's just me, personally... but clearly a lot of people have similar issues.

We're all on this forum because we want to play the game. Why are we arguing about not wanting other people to ALSO be able to play the game?

Just got it, FYI PS4 controller also works which really begs the question why they removed the tag but whatever, it works though in 5 minutes i definitely need to remap. Glad though!
Thanks for posting. Is remapping allowed in-game? And... is it worth the hassle or would you suggest waiting a bit longer?

Well guess what brainiac, you can use a controller with one hand but not a KB mouse. I cant use my right hand due to a gunshot wound and my friend had a stroke when he was 12 and cant use his left hand so were both 1 handed controller users.
I build houses after being medboarded due to my wounds in combat, go 4 wheelin, hunt, travel the world with my backpack. Let me know when you keep up.

Partially remap in game and i had to flip bumper and triggers in steam. Run is l3 wich i dont care for. You definitely need to use the kb to build but no biggy. Still working on mapping but its better tthan nothing.
I doubt they can do much to make it full controller, theres just too many needed commmands but honestly in 30 minutes i'm still loving it. This is my kinda game.

Damn, I'm pretty sure it's my kind of game, too... I'll switch to using the mouse for building on a lot of games with full controller support just to get that precision, but if the basic run, attack, etc. are easy enough to use with controller, that might be fine.

It's usually the interfaces that kill me, though. I have yet to find a game where a joystick actually "works" as a mouse in an in-game UI, even with controller support implemented. That means I have to switch to the mouse, and if I'm opening menus all the time... yeah, that gets annoying if there are no hotkeys to quickly switch between equipped items.

But... if the game itself is fun enough... I can be convinced...

the ps4 trackpad works as the mouse but i have to turn it off because my palm touches it and moves all over. Still trying to get a few things figured out but pretty much every game theres just a few things that i can never get right so i have to keep the kb/mouse close. Sons of the forest i need the kb close to swtch hotkeyed weapons. It sucks but hey i get to game and after being injured i thought that part of my life was over so im just happy with what i can get! Good luck to you! I just keep restarting until i get it right lol. But i think its probably as good as i can get it unless the ingame options finaly get full remap ability .

Oh and yes, basic run, aim shoot ect are no problem.

btw, i wasnt sure but you can be in game and winkey over to steam and edit steam controller while in game instead of exiting and relaunching 100 times. just be sure to take note or a pic of mapping in case you screw it up which ive done before.

Reading comprehension is a lost art apparently . You should try it out.

What branch were you in and mos just curious, So my big brainiac can wrap my head around your combat wound. Not saying you didn't get shot at all.

Most normal human beings use controllers. Many of them find it preferable. To those that prefer keyboard and mouse... that's fine, too. At the risk of pointing out the blatantly obvious (although maybe it's necessary in this case, if reading comprehension was indeed an issue)... nobody has suggested the developers REMOVE keyboard and mouse support, forcing everyone to use controllers. If simply knowing that other people are playing the game with a controller is preventing you from playing the game with KB and mouse, maybe you should be posting in a different type of help forum...

Army 11charlie ,hit during sniper ambush of 3 in Muqdadiya, took out my entire artery, bone ,triceptand nervous system , should have died but my buddy shoved his whole hand up into the wound and found the end of the artery. Spent a year at Walter Reed ,lost track of operations after 20.Titanium rod replaced the bone Had to take a chunk from my leg to replace it (artery) then they attempted to take nerves from both calves to patch the dead nerves but it didnt really work. All i can do with my right hand is squeeze with no proper motor function. Still have bullet fragments fester out once in a while. as they couldnt retrieve everything.
