Anyone have success with gun-toting marauder raids?
A lot of people have been talking about how OP/annoying the raids are once you get to a certain point (say day 30 or something). I'm wondering if anyone has had success maintaining and defending a base against raids full of gun-toting marauders and whatnot. I really want to keep playing with raids on but I'm hesitant if it turns out that they will literally just destroy everything after a certain point.

At the point they start destroying your stuff you can exit the game and turn raids off.
The major update reset the settings so I have a post day 50 raid start that I was not ready for. I quit and saved with about half health, turned raids back off. I just had a few repairs. They only thing they destroyed was my bonfire which probably went with one shot since it's only 100hp.

I've killed 2 islands of them so far ... Just need the right weapons and Healing potion ... Clear island FIRST before looting.
PS: I do have base raids - Off ... I want to enjoy the game and Not have to fight fools all night

Iron reinforced walls become a must. Traps and spikes are helpful as well.
Grenades are a wonderful thing.

If you think they guys with 3 barrel pistols are bad wait til your raiders are using shotguns and smgs with unlimited ammo.

Yes I have worked it out now.
1) They are after your bed and will attack anything between them and the bed.
2) The gun toting raiders can be pulled away from base attack by engaging them.
3) The melee attackers will ignore us and keep attacking towards the bed unless we get close enough.
TACTICS
1) Ensure your bed is not in your base. This means you will hear shooting but it wont be at you or your base. This allows you to slip out and get an advantageous position behind rock etc and pick them off.
2) If possible (and its only possible of some islands (I have done it on warehouse)) put your bed in a location that not only can the raiders not physically reach but cant even get line of sight. My bed currently is on a single foundation with no walls or anything. They shoot in its direction but cant hit it.
3) The bed location needs to be high enough that they can not see it from any other high location (within shooting range). It also needs to be unreachable by AI. ie. they cant path to it.
4) So, most islands it seems like the devs were aware of this tactic and deliberately made it so the bed can not be put in an invulnerable location. So, I'm guessing that the places it can be done are either older islands or designed by a different person.

Good luck :)

EDIT 1:
Ok Forget it. Looks like one of those patches might have stuffed this tactic. I just have 10 raiders attack, They were all around my base which means they were not focused on my bed which is on top of a separate building. Judging by where they were aiming and the path the 2 mellee fighters were attacking. I think the are after the research work bench. So, I'll see if I can move it but its way harder to conceal due to its height.

EDIT 2:
Upon doing repairs I found that their wall penetrating bullets damaged the anvil and the furnace (plus a container next to furnace. The research table was not far from the anvil but was not hit. The furnace and anvil were far from each other. Thoughts?

Further to my last post. The devs keep updating.
I was raiding an island. it got dark so I put down a bonfire and I build a single foundation and an armour repair station. Suddenly I notice an AI next to me. I manage kill him and then I see the water is full of AI. Its a raid. So, it now seems that the raiders can attack whenever you are near any foundation you have built or maybe there has to be something on it. It seems the bed etc are no longer relevant.
I ran, they destroyed the foundation and armour repair station but did not touch the bonfire. I was able to take care of them after the sun came up. They were just milling around where my foundation had been.
Conclusion: Raiders will raid any location you are at that has any base elements.

I agree it's annoying since I am playing on easy and low. Heck it's a massacre lol However, now that the 50cal is fixed I have four of them strategically placed and a boat-load of ammo and armor at each station. That seems to work for me. I do wish the devs would balance the levels a tad I think over a dozen marauders on easy is overkill...pun intended. I also have a 4-story level 4 base totally by surrounded by water and a insane amount of wire all around, that seems to keep them off my walkways. I have improved on getting them. I leave them off at times. I get tired repairing things. You really need the reinforced building items, they haven't broken a wall yet. :)

Keep upgrading your walls and make your base as easily traversable as possible for you, but add as many layers as you need.
Grenades are a godsend, make many levels of your base on as high ground as you can and place walls and covers so the enemies flock to those points.
Having high fortification walls behind low cover walls makes it much easier to lob a grenade at the wall without exposing yourself to their return fire.

I have my base on Castaway Island and it hasn't been invaded yet.
I'm past day 55, so I should get the full assault on easy.
I placed my starting foundation from the highest center peak, built 2 "north" (towards apartments POI) and one west, where I placed my door.
Rest are window walls with wall traps for extra padding.
They've broken walls, floors, foundations and base equipment, but have yet to enter my base.

First level will be foundations that's vulnerable from below, but I've started moving my stuff one floor up, again for extra padding.

I'm currently having L shaped ground floor of the base at this height, a 1st floor without walls but with low cover walls and a 3rd level only of floors.

Next plan is 2 or more levels of fortification walls, placed to hinder access and protect the foundations of the base from below.

Making a ring of foundations around the base at a height that will be covered behind ground level fortification walls, so I can place 2nd level ring wall.

This is very true. After having my arse handed to me several times, I reinforced my base with reinforced walls then added wooden spikes in front of them. Having windows and doors in strategic places is a must also.

Scared to post this as the Devs may change the tactics of the AI but has anyone else thought of using a spiked moat? Works good for me playing solo. Takes a lot of resources but keeps most away and kills most of them as they attack the spikes.
I put my wood platform moat 10 platforms away from my main base walls with 2 levels of spikes. Last raid i lost 4 spikes and had little to repair.
