you can build planters and put bush seed to harvest it, once the bush grows, you can chop it and get more wood

The starter axe takes FOREVER to chop a tree down. With better upgrades they do become easier, the last model being 4 hits. Good luck, have fun

Oh wait 2 hand axe isnt starter, mb. Sometimes the game thinks youre too far. Sometimes first swing hits, 2nd doesnt, animation resets and first strike hits again. Just stand close to the tree, give it a hug, then chop it down real close lol

I don't know what's wrong then. Once you chop a tree it should either burst into 4 branches that you can collect or alternatively 4 large logs (large trees when they pop). You also automatically pick up seeds when chopping down a tree.

Once you have cleared a few islands you can just sail around and play lumberjack.

Edit: I chop my trees with a sword usually...
