However, it lacks the effects of exposure and poisonings, making survival less of a chore.
There's also FAR more building and decoration options than Stranded Deep.
Sharks aren't as aggressive as Stranded Deep, either, and will actually leave you alone if you don't get too close. And you can get fairly close before they finally decide to attack. Even then, if you back off quickly, they will stop attacking.
Crafting is also a bit more involved than Stranded Deep as well. You can craft a lot more stuff in Sunkenland.
Stranded Deep is great for those looking for a true castaway survival aspect.
Sunkenland is more Post Apoc/Waterworld simulator. Combat and salvage is WAY more emphasized than the survival skills.

I don't know what it was about SD that made me hate it so much.
It's also extremely unforgiving in its learning curve.
Stranded Deep is a great game for those willing to endure punishment and stress.
And that's why it's one of those "love it or hate it" types of titles.
It's not for everyone, at all.
It is nothing like Stranded Deep.
