Orks are too clean and smooth
Straight up, put some texture and mud on them. These guys tinker with their cars all the time and i don't suppose they know of the concept of cleanliness

You may not have noticed but the models mimic the miniatures, both in color and texture. It's not perfect, but in order to support this feeling, you can't go into super-detailing.

But even the tabletop ones have at least some detail

That depends entirely on the painter.

Personally I think the devs have intentionally gone for a plainer aesthetic on the orks so as to make the vehicles the focus.
Probably helps with their texture memory budget too.

The vehicles are very well textured and detailed, much better than the accompanying greenskins.

Alot of detail that had been painted on. Most of the detail is in the tech, not the ork.

If I could have found the link to my wierdboy, that'd be an even better example.

GW's minis have tons of detail which actually makes them easier/harder to paint. Easier in that you don't have to fake details with paint. Harder in that holy frak does it get annoying trying to paint the lil' buckles, chain links, etc.

I'm not exactly a fan of some of the changes GW has made to their newer ork releases (*cough*monopose*cough*), but I'd never argue that they aren't extremely well done and detailed.

Actually, this one from GW's site is perfect for showing off detail.

I have that mini...as part of the Stompa Boyz box...sitting in my pile o' shame currently. It really does have stupid levels of details down to the little tiny staples holding the flesh of his arm together.

side note: If you are in need of surgery, I cannot recommend not going to an ork painboy enough...

The Big Mek even has multiple options for a few bits, including that ridiculous looking gun :D

No, they are beautiful and perfect just as Gork and Mork intended.

Dude, I'm nowhere near that Golden Demon level of painting skill, and I don't appreciate you trying to insult me by suggesting I should be!
