First, I can't see my character anymore
Two, I don't have working mirrors anymore
Three, The cop's AI is broken.. the guy literally see though walls.
You also have no actual way of hiding from him.. the bathrooms are useless now....
The good part.. well, better graphics... and that's all I have.
Please fix this game before people start hating on it too much.

As a long-time fan, modder and speedrunner of the White Day series, I love to see the universe expanded like this, and I'd say they've done a decent job for the most part. White Day 2 looks amazing, has great ambient music, and has a greater atmosphere than the remake. Some of the ghosts are especially creepy, and remind me of the more subtle approach of the original 2001 White Day.

Now *in principle* I prefer this game to the remake, however there's one big problem: The cop (which is this game's janitor). He is genuinely broken. He sees you from angles and behind objects he shouldn't, he finds you in places he couldn't possibly know about, his pathing is often unnatural / unpredictable, and his damage radius is somehow even bigger than in the remake. The same goes for the watchman. And it's really sad just how much damage these two fellas do to the experience. They ruin your immersion, they disincentivise exploration, and they cause you to repeat content over and over.

I don't think White Day has ever quite nailed the janitor. Even in the original he could get quite annoying, but this is unfortunately the worst implementation so far.

Moving on, there are some other problems with White Day 2. For one, the game has a lot of unfun chase sequences that just require trial and error (and trial and error is not scary). The worst chase is the one where you have to avoid 1 hit KO green ghosts, and the one with the floating girl in the new building. Although to be fair, this was a problem in the last game as well (in Ji-min's route), so at least it's not a step backwards. Rather, it's a step... sideways.

Another problem is that White Day 2 is quite linear. On one hand, Yeondu High School has never felt so beautiful, but on the other hand never so restrictive. Compared to the other games, there are less interactable objects, less items, less cutscenes, a jarring lack of dialogue options, lack of light sources (it's always so dark!), and many rooms & areas that are locked off. This isn't a massive problem mind you. Plus, this is only episode one, so perhaps I'll feel differently once the rest is out.

Lastly, there are some serious quality-of-life features missing here. Why can't I select menu options with a cursor? Why are the opening 3 and a half minutes of cutscenes unskippable? Why can't I rebind controls? Why does my save file get deleted when I beat the game? Why is my ending & ghost collection tied to a save slot? And why can't I revert checkpoints? It's just quite bizarre how clunky the menu navigation and save management is in a game made in 2023. I imagine some of this will get addressed soon but we'll see.

In conclusion... If you're a die-hard White Day fan like me, you'll probably enjoy White Day 2 in spite of its big flaws. If you're new, maybe wait a week or so for things to be fixed.

If I weren't already a fan of the series, I would say White Day 2 is a frustrating mess and most likely give it a negative review. However, I can see that White Day 2 has a lot of strengths behind that, and I believe in the developers to improve. So, I will mark this as a positive review.

White Day 2 is a broken disaster mess of a game that needs more than a few patches to fix the absolute train wreck that is present here.

First things first, the OG White Day is a classic, I played the original Korea only PC release as well as the remake many years later and enjoyed and beat both. The main issue here seems to me that this has been rushed out , put in a terrible episodic format to milk money from players, already has DLC to milk money from players and is broken at a fundamental level.

Even after the recent 1.3 patch this is a mess.

The basic gameplay of this has you running around a haunted school being chased by a possessed cop and at times various ghosts . Gameplay mostly involves stumbling around looking for keys and solving terrible puzzles that at times make no sense (at least in English) while being frustrated by being chased by the ever annoying and present NPC who seems to always be where you don't want him to be. While the 1.3 patch has fixed the enemy spawning next to you and has made him much easier to evade, running from him is still not fun and it's seemingly random if he gives up or loses you.

Story wise again in English at least this is a mess, story makes no sense, the notes feel badly translated and poorly phrased, the English voice acting is terrible and after playing the story I still have absolutely no idea what really happened. The cut scenes at times feel totally bizarre and out of place sometimes appearing at random and seemingly overwriting objectives you previously had at random once they trigger. It's a total mess.

There are a few cool moments, mostly with the ghost enemies although they are few and far between, the encounter with the slit-mouthed ghost is cool and theres a lot of awesome little spooky details you can notice as you go around the school. I wish this was the main threat rather than terrible cop.

One moment that made me almost explode with frustration was when you are being chased by the school principle and must navigate classrooms full of green ghosts, who one hit kill you. The problem here is the ghost hit boxes are so massive they hit you round corners, through doors and just generally make it the most unenjoyable experience possible. There are other terrible sequences where you must flick switches in a room while being chased by an NPC who sprints as fast as you do.. it's just really, really bad and I can't but into words how bad it truly is if you don't experience it yourself.

Technically things feel broken too, the game at launch didn't have control prompts when you used a controller rendering quick time events lethal. The game checkpoints during chases but then loads you in running towards your pursuer if you fail. During cutscenes the game will randomly cut to a first person you in a different room while it loads the next part of the cutscene before abruptly cutting back. It's amateur hour compared to the remake.

White Day 2 is a rushed out, cash grab that should not be charging half the price it does for this "EP1" let alone what it currently does, its atrocious that it already has DLC when the core fundamentals of the game are at times broken. Do not buy this until they patch it heavily, slash the price and perhaps even reconsider core aspects of this trainwreck. One of the biggest let downs in horror gaming history.

Ambience is great a lot like the classic White Day, ghosts are a little blander but still get in some good scares. The game however is only playable buy breaking the Guard as he can see you though walls and you can not hide.
The game play is feels like less compared to the old game, but the puzzles kinda make up for it I guess. Game also for some reason makes me open Steam Vr, to which I cant close till I end the game, It's not to much of a problem but it tabs me out sometimes.

I recommend not buying this till the A.I is fixed it's somehow way worse then White day Remake.

As a huge fan of the original White Day... I have to say that this is the worst possible sequel.
The game is not scary, it is an obnoxious stealth game without basic stealth mechanics. The non stop someone is chasing you is very tiring and waiting for them to do their patrol is very boring. The checkpoint system is awful and will put you in a chase scene followed by cutscenes followed by another chase scene with 1 hit kills. The enemies can only be stunned with 1 time use cameras that are very limited. More frustrating is getting stuck on random things in the environment or getting blocked by a stunned enemy.
Ghosts appearing were a staple of the first game, this game opts of scary stories in text documents but very little is done with them other than cheap jumpscares.
The plot seemed okay but then turned into budget resident evil without any weapons.
I liked the soundscape, the environments and the first person camera.
Hopefully they put some actually scary exploration and ghosts into the game and take out the constant chases.
I would not recommend playing this, just play the first one.

Game has became worse after the new update, developers ignore their players and their opinions, game is not playable at all.
Cut-scenes are out of sync game does not render properly and has many audio issues.

White Day 2 is a game that is very flawed. The AI is tragically bad, its way too dark even with the gamma turned all the way up. I can't believe there are no choices when speaking to any of the girls. HOW IN 2023 THERE IS UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES IS INSANE. There are multiple endings and a lot of secrets to uncover and you are making this game a CHORE to replay. The first White Day lets you skip EVERY cutscene. COME ON.6 The checkpoints are some of the worst checkpoints I have ever seen. I don't understand why they removed the status recovery items from the first game. Despite all of that I think there is a good game underneath everything. The game looks really good.6 I really hope they take all the criticism from the community and really make the next episode great. I just want to drink soy milk and romance my waifus while running from ghosts, why is that so hard to do? I'm going to recommend because I believe the devs can make this a GOOD GAME. Please don't let me down

Unfortunately just does not meet the scope of white day. Coming from someone who has 100% white day 2 times.

I really tried to enjoy this game because I'm a huge fan of the white day series but actually having fun playing it was practically impossible. This game is missing everything good from white day 1, the voice acting is horrible, the gameplay is boring, its so obvious that the developers were only focusing on one thing throughout the makings of this project. making the characters glossy.

I love this game, the same way i loved the first one. Which is why i'm kinda sad ngl

The graphics are very nice, the ambient is scary af and the gameplay is 100% my fave. The jumpscares keep the game fresh and also scare me to death. I had three jumpscares back to back at one point and i genuinely had to pause the game and take a moment to calm down. I also love how the ghost photos are handled. There's something eerie about them being there and you being unable to see them until you snap a pic

I'll start with my issues now:
- The endings are too abrupt. The ending cutscenes don't really explain anything unless you go to the ending collection to read wtf just happened

- There are 3 endings that are literally impossible to get on ver 4.0 because they're bugged. Kkotnim Sweetheart, which is the GOOD end in Alternative EP2. It lets you do EVERYTHING for the ending, but the FINAL CUTSCENE that triggers the ending DOES NOT PLAY. You have to DOWNPATCH the game to ver 3.0, which is WAYY worse without all the QoL changes. If you want what i consider to be the only actually well done ending cutscene, because it's the only one that has time to build up, and that ties up neatly in the ending (although the thing bugging me about it is Kang killing Eun-joo for literally no reason other than 'she's crazy like that idk lol'

- The other two bugged endings are the Sacrifice and All for Nothing endings in ep3 because you get softlocked into a frozen screen the moment you pick the 'Eavesdrop' option. (allegedly there's a way around it by switching the game text to korean, but i've yet to try it)

- Ji-Hyun shows up for no reason in like 2 cutscenes and does nothing and it's never explained nor touched upon

The story and the characters feel incomplete but there is a LOT of potential. So much so that I would unironically play a White Day 3. When the game released, there were a lot of bugs and issues and the enemy AI was too cracked. They wouldn't let you save the game at all, making you rely on autosaves, which is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for a game with 14 different endings. All of that has since been patched, however, so I can't complain.

I see that Rootnstudio is rather new at this and my heart goes out to them. They genuinely tried their best and I can appreciate that. There's so much potential here, but ultimately, I think the game was just too big for them to handle. EP3 was rushed and it SHOWS. And it's unfortunate. I do believe they've tried their best, however that does not excuse the current state of the game either. THREE endings are literally unattainable and there has been no fix since April.

Sadly, there's also no saving the story either, ESPECIALLY IN EP3

AND especially with how the endings play out and how unclear it is to unlock the alternative episodes (genuinely got the alternative EP1 on my first playthough by pure accident, same for EP2- for EP2, at least, it's a little more obvious because you have to pick up the family photo for it, while for Alternative EP1 you have to literally just go up to the windows where you see Na-Young's ghost, right after going to Main Building 1 after the Auditorium segment at the very beginning., Kinda insane that Alternative EP1 add ONE EXTRA HOUR OF CONTENT. I can't even imagine what my first playthrough would've been like if i didn't stumble into the Alternative ver)

The thing is, the story isn't that bad at the beginning. Episode 1 introduces a lot of things, answers a lot of stuff, adds onto the lore in White Day 1 and also leaves a lot of questions, which is exactly what got me hooked in the first place. I need to inject the lore into my veins

THE PLOT

In Episode 1, the overarching question is who killed Sung-Ah, with Soo-jin being the one accused. And so, she returns to the school, along with Sung-tae (who was her crush back in school and he kinda ditched her after rumours of her being a killer spread) one year after graduating (and one day after the events in WD1) to find out what really happened. But she never does. There are 2 good endings you can get here: Deception (normal EP1), which i can't comment on since i haven't gotten it yet, and Confession (Alternative ep1), which i did get. It seems pretty odd to me that Soo-jin just goes: 'I didn't kill her' and Sung-tae is like: 'fair enough lol' and then they fall in love and leave. Like, I get trusting her and the cutscene with their memories is cute, but... wasn't the whole purpose to find out what actually happened to Sung-Ah..? That goes literally nowhere in the EP called 'Who killed her?'.

In Episode 2, Kang returns to the school to find out what happened to her dad. He had committed 'suicide' in unusual circumstances. He was killed lol. And Kang goes to figure out what happened, while she gets chased by a purple ghost girl, who turns out to be Eun-joo, whom Kang killed for literally no reason other than 'she's mentally ill and is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up without her dad' which is.. a choice.

At least the Kkotnim ending is nicely done and the one that provides the most context and actual impact. If only I could actually get that ending without having to downpatch to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ version of the game...

In Episode 3, you play as Ji-min! Who returns to the school with the Na-Young urn from WD1 to find out what actually happened to her. Although I think it was pretty well explained that Na-Young offed herself because of Sung-Ah's ghost but they kinda retconned that here. In here, it turns out Na-Young offed herself in a ritual to resurrect Sung-Ah, but it ultimately failed because Yuri ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the ritual. I like Yuri a lot. Too bad she barely gets any time to shine in the story, when her role is rather important.

Ep3's Good Ending is Revenge Incarnate, which left me feeling... confused. Just, confused. So Yuri gets possessed by Na-Young and offs herself because she's the one that got her killed but.. then the ending description is so weird?? Like, it says Yuri took advantage of a person to get Sung-Ah killed, so ig it implies Kang killed Sung-Ah, but... Why did she do that?? It's never explained anywhere. They at least explained Eun-joo, but not Sung-Ah?? And she got to reconcile and apologise to Eun-jo but felt ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nothing towards Sung-Ah? Why? What??? What did Yuri even have against Sung-Ah?? It makes no sense, just got her killed for no reason. And then she's like 'I only messed with the ritual because Na-Young is crazy and trying to do evil spells!' But.. she's doing allat BECAUSE OF YOU. Wtf?? I'm so lost with that one. What doesn't help is that EP3's end is the most abrupt of all.

Not to mention the Chairman stuff. It only seems relevant as to why the school is still haunted and to Kang. Feels kinda random that Ji-min was the one to defeat the Holy Tree, when Kang could've done the same to foil the Chairman's plans for good and avenge her father. Like, she already breaks the bust in a few endings to destroy him, so why is it that in the Kkotnim Sweetheart end, she just, doesn't do that at all? Why does she do the same thing as Soo-jin and leaves the school after reconciling with her beloved? Why does everybody leave with unfinished business? Just so Ji-min can actually tie everything together? It's such a shame to me because it seems like EP3 was supposed to be a grand finale, but they had to rush it out.

Still, at the end of the day, this review is positive because, despite all its flaws, White Day 2 is a game i really enjoyed. I really liked the characters, as underdeveloped as they are. So much potential. The story had me hooked, the documents got some good lore and the ghost stories are just as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up as WD1. I loved that. I love this game. Which is why I wish it had a better story. All I ask is to at least make the endings attainable lol
