Hold to grapple?
The current grapple feels gross. It feels so unintuitive to press my grinder button in order to let go. I should be holding the grapple button to stay grappled instead of pressing a different button entirely to let go. And why does the jump button cancel my momentum entirely? It doesn't make sense.

Here's my suggestions:
Press the grapple or jump button to let go with momentum (pressing the jump button while grinding gives you a boost, so maybe that makes sense)
If you don't want momentum, then press the cancel button. It makes intuitive sense with other videogame logic.

Using the pepper grinder to escape grapple feels so wrong.

my thoughts exactly. i wish you could grapple by holding X and release by letting go of X. this game shines brightest if you get in a flow and the grappling areas dont flow at all.

This was such a bizarre choice of controls, having grapple as toggle mode while drill isn't. I've absolutely no idea what the devs were thinking here!

Perhaps that 'repeated inputs' option in the settings (manual/hold/auto) has something to do with it? I couldn't figure out the differences.

i completely agree. it really disrupts the flow of the game. it's especially a pain in the ass on Deeproot City.

If you're going for gold on that level and want some advice, it helps massively to get out of the habit of constantly holding down the drill; instead try to treat it just like the grapple (for each grapple press once to attach, then press drill once to fly off).

Also avoid boosting too much; only use it when really necessary (just to squeeze between sawblades and launch out of earth).
