I know that French Bread is a small company, but they should ask how ASW got it to work for their games, lol.
Kamone said no money no crossplay BOOM!

Here for some Kamone background (copy paste from twitch about tab google trans)
Game director, planner, programmer. I am in charge of all the fighting parts such as battle planning and battle programs for "Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX", "UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH", and "MELTY BLOOD".
Unfortunate but kind of understandable. I mean French-Bread only has 14 employees according to wikipedia so they're still super small. Plus I don't know what the logistics are between setting up the infrastructure between platforms and then potentially needing anti-cheat for PC with crossplay. I'm sure if UNI2 somehow was a commercial hit (relative to other anime fighters) and they actually sold ridiculous numbers they'd add it. At least we're finally getting rollback and PC will probably end up the de facto main platform to play online anyways long term.
I mean that was what I implied, but yeah sucks no matter how you want to word it
If you are too lazy to be part of a community on Discord... it is your problem.
We have 12-16 player tournaments on CLR every two months, and plenty of casuals so I cant care less about Crossplay when you are between people that understand that we are in the best platform. The game will be dead in consoles in some years, while still thriving on PC, or at least surviving. Check BBCF or +R.
Here from real example
I woke up in the morning holiday to play fighting game 6 am. , If I can't find the match both in the game and in discord so it's still my problem?
But what about the other console players that want crossplay? They must buy PC to solve the problem?
If you really think "Nah I don't care about crossplay because I always have players to play with on PC"
Then your logic is a problem.
Don't you think having crossplay is good?
Have crossplay = your community will grow = more fun
PC will always have players. I can still jump into ranked after work and get games, and we're still on delay based. You will have 0 problems finding people once rollback hits.
I've been playing SF6 with crossplay off and Xrd and there are plenty of warriors in the Wifi army.
Even if you want to be conservative and say only 30% of console players are on wire, thats still more than you wouldnt without crossplay.
That said, the lack of crossplay hasn't impacted my decision. Because a dead game that I enjoy playing is still more fun than a live one I don't.
However.
If it becomes discord dead then yeah that would be trash. Idk if it's because Unist lobbies suck, but in Xrd, another dead game, I just have an open lobby and ppl hop in. I tried discord last friday and pinging ppl just for 5 matches got annoying really fast.
There are a lot of factors pushing against the even mediocre success of this game, it's release date being sandwiched by bigger titles, increased price, regional prices, lack of marketing you name it. I didnt even know they put this on steam yet. I was just playing unist for two weeks, couldnt they have done an "update" on their main game to announce this? Hell, the population is so small in TL they prolly could have gotten away with doing a little ad there.
