English Country Tune

Error connecting to steam
Brand new machine going back to play some old favorites and I get "Error connecting to Steam" message when starting the game. Multiple restarts and the same.
I wonder if maybe Steam made some sort of API change that hasn't been adjusted for or maybe I'm the only one with this problem lately and there is no hope in sight.

Ok I've got it working

So, inside ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/English Country Tune/
I had to move the original executable file to an other location (I used English Country Tune.run instead)
And I put the script and named it English Country Tune (without extension), made it executable and now it works from steam !

It wouldn't work if I launched it from outside steam

Switching to beta channel of steam worked for me, in case anybody for the future is reading.

I encounter this too (Linux). I'm going to try the beta channel.
The beta channel doesn't work (I tried both steam beta and the game's beta)

Do you have any fix for this ?

Ah, sorry for the delay in replying. :(

Can you find any related log files in something like "~/.config/unity3d/increpare games" (or some subfolder of .config/unity3d that sounds like that)? If you could, could you put them on pastebin and link me, or email me them at analytic@gmail.com?

(the full list of locations, for other systems not linux

macOS ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log
Windows C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\CompanyName\ProductName\output_log.txt
Linux ~/.config/unity3d/CompanyName/ProductName/Player.log

companyname should be something like "increpare games" and product name something like "english country tune")

Oh boy that's helpful. It looks like it can't find the right dll. Weird that it works on some linuxes but not others :/ - https://forum.unity.com/threads/cant-find-linux-dll-files-heres-how-you-fix-it.228226/ it looks like a script file you'll have to manually run rather than run from steam - if that's not suitable/it's a bit vague I can try sort something better out :)

fixed by using: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./ %command% in the startup options
for whatever reason it does not search in the executable folder anymore.

That's pretty spooky. Thanks for letting me know...hmm...
Linux user here, Pop!_OS running kernel 5.8.0-7630-generic. The game opens in a small window and says cannot connect to Steam. Haven't found a fix for it yet.

Update; One of the fixes I found was by forcing Steam to launch the game using a compatibility tool. This downloads the Windows version of the game instead of the Linux version, then plays it using a modified Wine compatibility layer. The game worked under the Windows version using Proton Experimental.
