Im not sure about options and devs already answered but maybe you could find two skeletons in close embrace so "some romance" actually could be there.... :-)
This is sad news, because other post apocalyptic games had it, like Elex 1 & 2 and Postal games. even Metro series (although it wasn't really an option, but a story - but still good)
Maybe you could make achievable stretch goal for it?
Or make a story romance, like in Metro? or at least like in Chernobylite 1?
No good a men being alone (even if it's only in-game) ;)
Every game doesnt need it and Elex world is different. I dont think that Chernobylite is good for it.
Perhaps it could be there in forms of vague flashbacks or memories - like you HAD partner or at least platonic love in normal outside world. That would probably make sense... but traditional romance not so much.
