Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone

Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone

My Biggest Worry
I loved the first game a ton. I know a lot of people keep going after things like the change to more action focused, the melee combat, and stuff like that, but I feel like it could be fun either way.

No, rather, the thing I'm worried about with the game is the narrative. I'm going to keep it spoiler free even though most people will have played the first one anyway. Obviously, with the first one we've got Igor trying to find his missing wife in the zone, and that he sneaks in with Olivier. He gains his allies, and fights off against the stalker. This works honestly. It is a fairly emotional story being driven by his desire to find his wife, with the mystery that unwraps over the course of the game.

Thing is, from what I've seen of the sequel, it looks like it isn't going to do as much of that. I'm extremely worried that we're going to either get a silent protag or a quip-protaganist (such as those in the borderlands series), where the story is much more detached due to that. The extra emphasis on the online co-op content also leans into that. Yes, they could do something like Dying Light where every player functions as the one protaganist, but it feels much more like they're looking for something more in line with an extraction shooter where the lore takes the backseat instead focusing on the player engagement.

That side makes me very much worried due to how we don't have any shortage of those sort of online games, and it would be a shame to see something as interesting as the first game was simply leading into yet another "pseudo-live service" which can't really commit to either side.

It is also to say nothing of how not many games treat the zone with the sort of respect that the first game did. Between the attempts to make the actual maps fairly accurate, never trying to make the zone into a place that you should try and visit, and also having the bonus mode with all of the voice logs containing the real information about the zone, allowing you to somewhat experience those things without having to actually go there. It would be a huge shame to see that side of things getting sacrificed just for the sake of making some more mindless online entertainment.

The developers said that this is an evolution of Chernobylite, and not a deviation in some completely different direction. If so, then all aspects of the game should be at least as good as in the first part, and in general, the game should be better. I think it's not worth spreading panic, but we need to wait for the release of the game.
Personally, I am very pleased with the presence of an open world and a greater number of NPCs with whom you can interact. And of course, a good plot is very important for Chernobylite, without it it simply does not make sense.
I believe in the talent of developers, because they have already proved that they can create fascinating and touching stories.

Yeah its just that a lot of the footage that we've seen of the game looks more in line with stuff that seems like the focus is going to be more on the co-op side, or have multiple protaganists that all fill the same place but have no real bearing on the story due to being interchangeable. I do have faith in the devs, I'm just worried that it won't live up to the first one.

How did you determine this from the footage? It's just a few screenshots and a short video with gameplay. So far, there has been no demonstration of the main character and there is no information about the plot at all.
It doesn't make sense to fantasize, we just need to wait for the release of the game or at least some information about the plot and characters.

So let’s make it clear - Chernobylite 2 is a direct sequel to Chernobylite, expanding on all its elements and introducing new features that the community has requested many times. These include an open world and co-op gameplay.

The game is being developed from the ground up as a single-player experience. It includes plenty of optional co-op content, but all of it can also be completed solo. The game has one protagonist, and who that is comes with a certain twist. During the game, we don’t change the protagonist but instead alter their skills and experiences. If you’ve completed Chernobylite, I think you’ll be able to deduce pretty easily why that’s the case.

Thanks for responding to this. It actually (assuades?) a lot of the fears I had about it. That new skill system actually sounds pretty interesting. I'm glad you guys are active amongst the community to help people like myself to understand what your intentions are with it.

Now I'm just dying of curiosity!:steamhappy:
I hope I won't run into any spoilers. It will be super exciting to start the game with only the information about it that is available now. The only spoiler I would like to stumble upon is the approximate release date.)

If only steam allowed image insertion here haha. I'd post a picture of a car rear wing (aka a spoiler).
