I absolutely loved the first one, I can't understand why they didn't just build on the foundation of what they already had instead of throwing it away to make an open world crafting survival game.
Because Steam doesn't have enough of those already
Our previous game was built around three main pillars—Chernobyl (as a setting), survival (as gameplay), and horror (as a mood). During the development, we cautiously introduced a fourth, small, and conservative pillar—RPG elements, which manifested as a dialogue system, branching paths, and character development training. This pillar was praised enough that we decided it would become a fully-fledged pillar in our next game. We might not have communicated this well in the first trailer, but the core of Chernobylite remains unchanged.
Anybody to whom I have discussed Chernobylite with, praised the atmosphere, the desolation and the feeling of anxiety when you move though the zone. The boss appearing after a certain timer on your missions and the vibes of the game. The story branches and base building are also important, but the most important attractions for most people were the first. In the new trailer you showcased, you showed a vibrant world, nothing looking like the malicious atmosphere of Chernobylite 1. You showed third person animations that you do some strange pirouette thing to melee an enemy, and 0 recoil firearms. I hear developers stating the gunplay was weak, and I agree, but it was servicable. What you're doing here seems to be more variety over quality. The third person view is a big no-no for me anyway, since it takes away from the stress of being in the zone. I respect your choices since its your time and money on the line but this ain't it chief, for me at least. Chernobylite will forever be one of my favourite games as a total package, but this game you're making now looks nothing like it.
The picture in Chernobylite 2 is great, and the open world, more non-hostile NPCs and a variety of enemies, it's just a huge improvement.
The third-person view certainly killed me, but I hope that there will be some solution and it will be possible to play only with a first-person view.
Overall, the trailer is very impressive, and knowing the previous games of The Farm 51, I am sure that Chernobylite 2 will be a very exciting game.
My hype was on the roof but after watching it i just shocked how much they massacre their franchise!
Why????!!!
I hope farm 51 will be succeed in what they are aiming for , i don't understand it but it is what it is.
Really disapointed.
I can guarantee that Chernobylite 2 is much closer in atmosphere and feeling to the first part than it may appear on the teaser. Looks like we've misguided our audience (that's clearly our fault) by focusing on what's new, instead of showing what's repeated and continued.
Most of the time you'll explore the Zone in first-person. Most of the melee weapons are raw and brutal instead of allowing you to pirouette. And most of shooting weapons are not easy to handle because of their recoil and skills required to aim properly.
Then I hope you'll wait a bit more for the proper gameplay showcases and consider giving a chance to Chernobylite 2 - at least by judging the full scope of the project, not only this crazy teaser.
