This looks atrocious
You had one of the most atmospheric games that we loved, with huge potential and you decided to make it a Once Human clone with bad animations? Holy god...... I almost regret buying Chernobylite now and I absolute loved, loved, loved chernobylite.

Its still early. Things can change obviously before it releases.

My thoughts exactly.

I absolutely loved the first one, I can't understand why they didn't just build on the foundation of what they already had instead of throwing it away to make an open world crafting survival game.

Because Steam doesn't have enough of those already :stress:

I suspect Farm51 is feeling the economic squeeze. They've made some outstanding singleplayer sims (Chernobylite was great, but I also fell in love with Get Even and NecroVision from way back). But you just can't monetize that kind of game like you can the multiplayer dreck we're drowning in today. Dark times ahead?

Gaining a broader audience is always nice, but not every decision is driven by that calculation. We are a small, close-knit, independent team with a turnover rate below 5%. Unlike most companies or teams, our goal isn’t to continuously expand the team and budget—we simply want to create the kind of games that we enjoy and that our fans might enjoy as well.

Our previous game was built around three main pillars—Chernobyl (as a setting), survival (as gameplay), and horror (as a mood). During the development, we cautiously introduced a fourth, small, and conservative pillar—RPG elements, which manifested as a dialogue system, branching paths, and character development training. This pillar was praised enough that we decided it would become a fully-fledged pillar in our next game. We might not have communicated this well in the first trailer, but the core of Chernobylite remains unchanged.

@Legileg Thanks for the detailed clarification. For the record, I adored Get Even, and the story of the Corner Gun is some inspired stuff! Anyway, if the basic gameplay and mood of Chernobylite 2 is unchanged from the first game (which I supported on Kickstarter BTW), sign me up! I know describing genres these days can be inelegant and misleading, but it seems some folks viewing the initial Chernobylite 2 teasers (including me) may fear their beloved game is transforming into yet another "multiplayer open-world crafting survival" game a la Once Human or ARK: Survival Evolved or what-have-you. Chernobylite, for me, was a lovely, kind of sad, creepy, single-player shooter in an amazing setting with fully realized characters and relationships--stuff you generally don't find in those cookie-cutter multiplayer titles. Thanks again for chiming in here. It really matters.

Anybody to whom I have discussed Chernobylite with, praised the atmosphere, the desolation and the feeling of anxiety when you move though the zone. The boss appearing after a certain timer on your missions and the vibes of the game. The story branches and base building are also important, but the most important attractions for most people were the first. In the new trailer you showcased, you showed a vibrant world, nothing looking like the malicious atmosphere of Chernobylite 1. You showed third person animations that you do some strange pirouette thing to melee an enemy, and 0 recoil firearms. I hear developers stating the gunplay was weak, and I agree, but it was servicable. What you're doing here seems to be more variety over quality. The third person view is a big no-no for me anyway, since it takes away from the stress of being in the zone. I respect your choices since its your time and money on the line but this ain't it chief, for me at least. Chernobylite will forever be one of my favourite games as a total package, but this game you're making now looks nothing like it.

I disagree with this, the picture is very close to Chernobylite, it's just that the trailer shows pretty clear weather, but sometimes the weather was clear in Chernobylite, too, and due to the increased drawing range and slightly less dense fog, the scenes look more natural, and it's easier to see the details, which is better for the eyes. I really didn't like the strong excess of fog in the first part, it didn't look very natural, it almost completely ate up a huge amount of detail and I had to strain my eyes to see something a dozen meters away.

The picture in Chernobylite 2 is great, and the open world, more non-hostile NPCs and a variety of enemies, it's just a huge improvement.
The third-person view certainly killed me, but I hope that there will be some solution and it will be possible to play only with a first-person view.
Overall, the trailer is very impressive, and knowing the previous games of The Farm 51, I am sure that Chernobylite 2 will be a very exciting game.

I hope farm 51 will be succeed in what they are aiming for , i don't understand it but it is what it is.

Really disapointed.

I can guarantee that Chernobylite 2 is much closer in atmosphere and feeling to the first part than it may appear on the teaser. Looks like we've misguided our audience (that's clearly our fault) by focusing on what's new, instead of showing what's repeated and continued.

Most of the time you'll explore the Zone in first-person. Most of the melee weapons are raw and brutal instead of allowing you to pirouette. And most of shooting weapons are not easy to handle because of their recoil and skills required to aim properly.

Then I hope you'll wait a bit more for the proper gameplay showcases and consider giving a chance to Chernobylite 2 - at least by judging the full scope of the project, not only this crazy teaser.

I'm really looking forward to this. I really enjoyed the first one, and I'm excited to get stuck into the world again with a less linear feel.
Look how they massacred ma boi

I think the problem is THIS CRAZY TEASER ; )

Ya, also here to say it's pretty weird to get a good following for your game, have a very set in stone gameplay loop, and have a almost down to even the story clone of Stalker, and then 180 to whatever this "follow up title is" Honestly should have dropped the name and called it something new, then no one here would be complaining, but you are taking something people liked and changing it quite a bit more than I think anyone was prepared for. Kinda like Greedfall 2, I expect if you follow thru with this your game will be enjoyed by about the same amount of people who will be playing Greedfall 2. Which I dont believe will be very much at all. You had a way better chance with something that resembles the original more. Hoping that I'm wrong about this, but like others here I wouldn't say anything if it didn't look troubling.

I hope it's good since the first game was great, but when I watched the trailer it just looks like it's trying to be a really bad souls-like or something of the sort. Giant boss in the trailer only supports that feeling even further.
