Nope. Electoons afaik unlock the "boss" levels. Nothing more.

yes you do. you need a certain ammount to progress through the levels, not much in the begining but once you get half way through the game you need a lot more to get to the boss, and the bosses in term unlcok the last level of the game

you also need them to get the red teeth inside of the chests and get to the land of the livid dead if you want to(it's a extremely hard bonus level)

Regarding electoons and the land of the living dead. How many of them do you need of them? Do I need to perfect every level? I am at Angsty Abyss right now and have collected around 160.

I am enjoying the game quiet a bit, but am not eager to revisit a lot of the levels. Looking forward to replies!

Answer to myself after finishing the game: 200 electoons are needed to unlock the Land of the Living Dead. Finished with 175 in the end and could not bring myself to revisit so many levels.

I think Electoons are needed for two major things in the game: unlocking new characters and unlocking the treasure chest chase games - which in turn are needed to get to the last area.

The last character I think requires all of the Electoons in the game to unlock. However it's more trouble than it's worth. The later levels have tricky time trials and the cloud world is hard in and of itself...
