What kind of controller should I buy?
I switched from consoles to PC a while back (dreamcast was my last system) but I've never boughten a controller yet because of the games I've purchased. Anyway, I just purchased this and Sonic Generations and I really want to play them with a controller because I think the experience will be a lot better and I'm looking for controller sugestions. Price isn't really an issue but I try to be frugal. Any help would be appreciated!

Ironically with this standard, Microsoft seems to have all but abandoned it, in spite of it being the absolute best controller to have for a PC. They don't really make wired controllers anymore, and the wireless ones they make require an adapter for the PC... which they also don't make anymore.

Maybe they don't stock the wired version in your local stores, but you can get a "Microsoft Made" Wired 360 controller from Amazon for between $30 and $40 shipped any day you want one. If they DID stop making them there seems to be plenty sitting around in a warehouse somewhere.
I for one prefer the PS3 controller over the 360 one(don't flame holmes), but I use that and just use DS3 tool to emulate a 360 controller.
boughten is not a word...lol
I use a PS3 controller plus MotioninJoy to make my PC think it's an xbox 360 controller.
I like my PS3 controller using BetterDS3. http://betterds3.ciebiera.net/

Mostly because the dpad is necessary for these kind of games and the 360 controller has the world's worst dpad (probably).

I also like that I can map any button/trigger/stick to any button/trigger/stick.
yours is a good reply but i find the xbox 360 pad works with all games
Any xinput controller should work. So XBox360 surely and logitech f510/710 will work perfectly (it's matter of preferences what you like most*).
*Though vibration on mine f710 doesn't respond that well as on mine xbox controller if you want to know my opinion.
the pc xbox 360 wired controller is quaranteed to work without any problems
yes the 360 is very contagious
Well, depends what you'll be playing really. If you're playing fighting games, then a joystick is best - especially for games like this :)

I'm using a logitech F310 gamepad that is quite cheap and works everywhere.:tradingcard:

I think the Steam-Windows version of Rayman Origins does not support controller rumble/vibration which is too bad - so I don't think you should play Rayman Origins on Steam when you want to test the rumble.
Why posting a 10 year old topic?
