Yep exceed 3rd is quite accessible, simple scoring system, simple mechanics, and bullet patterns that are not as vicious as those you can encounter in CAVE games for example. But it's still a solid game, great music, etc., I think it's one of the best games to begin with bullet hells.

I have played all 3 exceed games so far but i have only played 1 touhou project games and the exceed games seem much more harder. Thou i only player the first ever touhou project which was made for windows, which is not on the harder side of the touhou project but still. Exceed games(excluding the first one) are pretty solid, with decent diffculty. I think this game would fit more for those who has experience in the bullet hell games.

Touhou is harder on lunatic. But these games are pretty solid in terms of difficulty on the highest difficulty levels.

Exceed 2nd is hard regardless of difficulty picked imo (unless you on easy).

It depends on the Touhou game also. Subterranian Animism is pretty tough, but iirc some of the other ones are a lot easier on hard.

Also there's another difficulty level in this game (Exceed difficulty) that is unlocked by beating the true last boss.

It's a troll, as in 90% of cases of "touhou is harderp" on the Internet. I suspect that people who got butthurt over a couple western Touhou fandom fappers' ignorance about shmups, and that I believe for major part consists of Cave fanboys, are a much bigger culprit in propagating this meme now than the prementioned Touhou fans themselves. Ah, the Internet.

Eh, they're are still a lot of legit Touhou fanboys who compare games difficulty unfavorably to Touhou (even when they haven't played them) while completely serious.

Of course there are, that's a given. But my personal experience is that too many times when I run into such a comment, it's such an obvious troll that it seriously makes me think who's creating most of the noise.

Well in my experience, it's not so much a troll as simply a meme reference. For example if you just see someone say in all caps TOUHOU IS HARDER out of nowhere, it's probably just a joke and not actually trying to fool anyone.

Yeah, I think I can discern between the two. But meme references can only be understood by people who know them, which pretty much excludes the ignorant Touhou fans, so for them it may only reinforce the misconception.

I think a lot of the Touhou people don't actually play the games, so their understanding will probably be inadequate to judge a game's difficulty.
