i did play the demo so did it mess with the files or what? cause every time i close the game and open it back up all the saves and settings are reset which sucks cause i already spent over 40 minutes in the first level, i already verified game integrity and uninstalled reinstalled if losing save isn't intended
Edit: actually does the game need a button press to save that i just keep missing or?

You just have to exit through the main menu
