Sword players received a strong nerf in 4.6.0. Embark, please fix.
The nerf to the sword was so severe that it’s now almost unusable for basic utility. Lunging with a slight downward angle (~45 degrees) doesn't even register a hit to clear detection traps on the floor! The sword sprite clearly appears to make contact, yet nothing happens.

Worse still, in just two games I’ve experienced multiple moments where the sword sprite, mid-lunge, visibly makes contact with an enemy, only for no hit to be registered at all.

From the patch notes:
Sword
  • Decreased lunge duration of the secondary attack from 0.4 to 0.3 seconds, reducing the distance by about ~1m, from roughly 7m to 6m.
  • Decreased the length of the secondary attack’s hit sweep by 55cm.

According to The Finals wiki on the sword[the-finals.fandom.com], it’s modeled on 19th- to early 20th-century ceremonial naval cutlasses, which historically had a blade length of around 66cm. If the devs initially set an accurate hit sweep based on this, then reducing it by 55cm would leave us with around 11cm. That's basically the size of a (small) kitchen knife! We might as well give sword players a kitchen knife skin to match this reduced sweep.

After playing with the nerf, I’m left with a sword that feels like it’s half a weapon.

My plea to the devs:
I would rather have the pre-nerf range without the pierce buff (hitting multiple enemies while lunging).

Embark, please fix.

EDIT: JK, it was a skill/muscle memory issue. All is good after some hours of practice.

i just hit ruby im a sword light main since season two and i have to say that its a skill issue, i can still drop 40 in a quick cash so coming off of that i dont feel that your whining is very valid. just get better lol sword still feels like sword. the duration doesnt really matter if im animation cancelling. and the light sweep range can be as small as it wants im still only using that to finish a medium or heavy while im already in there butt so i dont see the problem. just get better. srsly. no hate

No hate perceived. My problem is with the visual cues. Lunging and rotating to hit something to the left and right is much harder and does not register even tho it visually appears to make contact.
I am definitely not as good as you, but I could consistently drop 15 on platform games. My last plays were sad with average 4-5 kills :(

I get it. I will get used to it... but I wish they fixed the visual cues

Totally agree with you on duration. This may be actually a buff in disguise making it a bit easier to stay closer to the target enemy.

Now just imagine if they nerfed all your gadgets and weapons as well. Welcome to try playing as a heavy class.

someone saw the word "sword" and got triggered immediately lmao

the nerf was necessary. Console players weren't able to keep up.

WHY IS THE SOLUTION TO NERF SWORDS INSTEAD OF BUFFING THE THINGS HEAVY HAS TO PUNISH SWORD PLAYERS, THAT WERE NERFED FOR NO REASON?

Its about time light starts getting some nerfs, its not fun when you have to go up against a player that can kill you before you've even blinked. Yes it might be fun dashing around and abusing the sword lunge but its next to impossible to combat against, at least for the average player especially when you've been tazed as well, not only cant you do anything to avoid the sword, if you don't have aim bot then at best you will only do a fraction of damage.

I haven't personally used it so i don't know if its actually any worse but its still the same case going up against them, very annoying and hard to combat. Honestly i hope the light class loses its taze soon, that would be great.

Yeah I got a 40 in quick c and do very well in ranked, even before the previous buff! THis revert just makes it higher skill (Unless you use stun gun.). THere are some nice counters to it, someone made a post about it.

THERE WAS SOMETHING CALLED A ROCKET LAUNCHER THAT WOULD BLOW LIGHTS INTO SPACE BUT IT WASNT USELESS SO PEOPLE WHINED AND GOT IT NERFED

WE HAVE SO MUCH WORK TO DO GUYS LETS MAKE AN EXCEL SPREADSHEET OF EVERY WEAPON, ANY WEAPON THAT CAN GET MORE THAN 1 KILL A MATCH IS GETTING NERFED. BEING ABLE TO GET KILLS IN A VIDEO GAME IS NOT FUN. IM GLAD EMBARK IS ON THE RIGHT PATH, OF NERFING EVERYTHING AND TURNING THIS INTO A GENERIC CASH SHOP FPS
