I love this game always
To be honest, even though the finals doesn't have a lot of people right now, I still love the game, and I love the art and music. Maybe it's the developer's operational mistakes that have caused a lot of player churn. But I've also seen a lot of effort from them. For the new mode, for the cheaters, for the balance (maybe nerf a little too much). I hate seeing people say so often that the game is dead, that doesn't do the game any good, and I want to give the developers more time to make the game better. I'll keep playing this game because I haven't come across a game that can replace it!

Personally I think this game WAS AMAZING. I still enjoy it but.. SOMETHING HAPPENED.. and many people walked away from this game..

it feels like it happened over night.. or over one update..
This game is great but yeah it's a shame that people keep leaving it. Maybe S3 will bring a lot back but if not hopefully it doesn't completely die

Yes, I agree! I believe that having cheaters in almost every round is the main cause of player churn in Season 1, but I didn't run into a cheater for a day today, and I had a lot of fun, albeit staying in Platinum 2.

Yes, I think the developers will have a big surprise in Season 3. Because their imagination is really rich.

I like this game a lot but I personally stopped playing it a while ago cause it got kind of boring. There aren't that many weapons or abilities to really grind for a get acquainted with. Half of the weapons aren't worth using, and half of the abilities are just as bad. So there isn't too much of a grind in the game, which is generally half the reason people play live service multiplayer shooters, the other half being the actual gameplay itself.

Also, this is just my opinion, but the content that they have added in the last two battle passes is just, not that good. Especially the armor; 80% of the armor in the passes are just, not very good, or cool, and definitely don't make me want to grind for them. A lot of the weapon skins are cool, but that goes back to the issue from earlier, because a lot of the cool skins are on guns that aren't good, or classes you might not personally enjoy. The weapon and armor skins are only about 25% of the battlepass too- the rest of it is basically worthless. Sprays, Stickers, Charms for your guns, and voice lines are just pointless bloat added to make the grind longer- because no one uses them. So you're basically spending 80+ hours (how long it took me to get the first battlepass completed) on the game, and getting 85% junk for your efforts.

Each season being 3 months long really compounds the problem, too. There's no feasible way to get cosmetics in the game without spending absurd amounts of money. Most of the skins in the store are purposely sold as sets, at the steep price of $20, because the devs wan't you to pay full price for the entire skin, rather than just letting you purchase just the Helmet, or Gloves, or Boots, from a skin you might like. They even artifically jack up the price of some weapon and skin packs by, again, adding a whole bunch of stuff no one cares about, like more stickers or voice lines. There's no way to earn any cosmetics, other than a extremely limited selection added at launch, without spending real money. There's no "Shard" or "Coin" system, no random chance loot boxes you can earn by playing, or even out of the battlepass.

This isn't even mentioning that the developers have, multiple times, released skins, for the same price of $20, that are literally just color swapped versions of other skins. Like the Ballerina skin you get at the end of the first Battlepass- they took it, changed it from white to black, added a voiceline, 3 second match start animation, and weapon charm, and called it a day. That's just lazy, pure and simple. It also bloats the games cosmetic shop by adding a bunch of overpriced variants no one cares about or is going to buy. All of this is basically to say, you literally can't unlock cosmetics in this game without spending an absurd amount of real money; and even if you decide to do so, there isn't even that many good cosmetics in the game anyways, so you're options are pretty limited.

Sure, players can continue to engage with the game simply because they like the gameplay, but at a certain point people will stop playing because they need something to work towards. Not everyone want's to sweat out a high ranked placement, especially if they primarily play solo que, or just don't want to deal with the many different extremely broken strategies that have existed throughout the games life cycle. It took the devs like, 3 months to even ADDRESS nukes. The game was never balanced, which is fine, but that aspect doesn't really lend itself to a "competitive" aspect, considering most people expect comp modes to be somewhat balanced, and reliant on skill, rather than ability to exploit.

So, if it really doesn't take long to unlock all the good weapons and equipment...And you can't unlock cosmetics from just playing the game... but the battlepass is 75% useless junk, and a small handful of actually worthwhile cosmetics... but the next battlepass comes out in 3 months, and the store is most likely just going to be updated with $20 reskins... what point is there to play the game? To win your match? Well, what about after that? Again, people can only do the same thing so many times, with the only incentive being personal gratification, for so long. There have to be visible results, or rewards for their effort, even if it's simply casually. And the devs, whilst providing a fun and engaging PVP experience, haven't done much else.

I had my fun with the game, put over a hundred hours into it in the first month and a half, or two months of it coming out. Haven't felt any interest to play it since then, though. Three new weapons have come out, and that's it. One new map, and a small few new gamemodes that either don't change too much, or are sorta impossible to play, because they rely on teamwork in a game where no one uses their damn mic. I'm sure a lot of people probably share my same mentality on the game at this point. Not a bad game, it just got boring.

Long post, I know, but you asked why the game isn't as popular, and this is why I think it may have lost some of it's community. Of course, games almost always lose some players after launch, but I mean, this game went from 200k+ to 19k, in a few months. Which is too bad- I like the game, just wish it didn't have such predatory monetization.
