instantly fix the aimbot issue
add invisible targets with random locations that changes periodically. so these targets are virtually identical to players minus the visibility, which means they'd only get targetted by aimbotters.
killing one of these targets instaly permabans the account who kill them

And then in a fire fight, you hit one tracking a fast moving light and you get permabanned.

Good idea. Let's make the game super toxic for peeps not actually cheating.

the entire point would be to give health to these targets so random shots don't trigger any ban.
that's common sense
The issue is that those entities need to somehow be marked as invisible in the game. It would take cheat makers only minutes of scanning to find out what determines that.
If there was a simple solution every game in the world would deploy it.
But there isn't, so they don't.

this is done mostly on the server side, on the client it appears as a valid player except that it's not visible for the player.
it is something that has been implemented on warzone and it seems to work pretty well, lots of players (and streamers) got banned with this

Real useful if a light happens to run it into LoS.

So for a few seconds, you're left wondering why your hits aren't registering, as you're bulldozing the "invisible target" and then you get perma banned.

No, this idea is dumb.

There still needs to be at least some kind of difference in what the server sends in order to tell your client not to render it. If the server sent exactly the same data as with a legitimate player, it would be visible like a legitimate player.

What could be effective is if the way it works is constantly changing. Then cheaters can be detected after a game update, but before the cheats update to ignore the newly changed invisible decoys. I guess this is how Warzone does it.

Interesting idea overall. :steamthis:

I'm never in my life going to intentionally click a polygon link, even if there was a gun to my head. You're extremely arrogant and ignorant if you somehow think you and that "journalist" of yours have solved the fps cheating issue, and NO companies decide to run it and make it work. Delusional.

here's the source https://www.callofduty.com/blog/2023/06/call-of-duty-ricochet-anti-cheat-season-04-update
polygon copy pasted the blog post, like any other journalist that makes articles about gaming.
you're extremely aggressive for someone who denies an entire suggestion cause a linked article is from some company you dislike

I'm not being aggressive, if I was i'd be calling you names. The truth is that with an ounce of common sense and seeing all of the examples around us, there's no true fix. There are occasional strokes like the cod nonsense that work temporarily, but they never work for good. So acting like the devs of literally any game can just copy paste ideas into their games to get rid of cheaters is just beyond silly.

I feel like the only fix that has worked for long is the valorant stuff, and i'm not sure if that's even still working.

the concept has been tested on warzone and it's working, dunno for how long but lots of undetected cheats got detected with this system, and cheating streamers got caught live as a bonus.
of course it's not a magic solution. but at least it should reduce the cheating problem.
being creative is the only way to fight cheaters, using intrusive anti cheats don't work well and will never ever work reliably.
anti cheats can always be bypassed either with software (such as VMs or low level drivers) or hardware (DMA, cronus, etc)

the point is not about copy pasting stuff from other games, the point is to suggest solutions to reduce cheating, anyone with half a brain knows that there's no perfect nor permanent solution to cheating in online gamers. however there are creative ways to fight it, some have proven to be effective and should be more widely used instead of just relying on the classic passive anticheat system.

and for the valorant part:
vanguard is spyware, and it still can be bypassed by cheaters anyway, so it's not a solution.
the AC is good at detecting VMs but it's not as magical as people claim. it's insanely intrusive, breaks compatibility with WINE/Proton, causes major security concerns, etc.
