Dear Embark, you ruined the throwing knives.
now before people get all pissed that this is another person complaining about balance or smth, im going to drop the melodrama right away and tell you my OPINIONS. i think the game is pretty balanced at the moment. i know hot take but i feel like sometimes i lose games heavily and sometimes stomp the opposition, therefore balanced. i think people focus too much on when they lose rather than when they are having fun and winning. anyway that's not what this is about.

IMO the new patch completely ruined throwing knives, yes they buffed them and they are a better weapon now but thats not what i mean. i have used them for over 400hrs and have climbed to d3 with them, im pretty confident i know how they work and whats wrong with them. for me i think they were decently balanced before, they just needed some tweaks to bring them into the limelight. people thought they were ♥♥♥♥ because they worked so differently from the other weapons in the game. other weapons are focused on recoil patterns and aiming directly at your target to hit shots. the old knives were heavily focused on timing, leading shots and combo-ing the fire types. with the new left click all that is gone, which makes me very sad because they were so uniquely crafted before.

it seems as though embark has looked at the data, seen they weren't being played enough and decided to buff them, however the buff has ruined the uniqueness of them. the faster left click has brought them closer and made them more like the regular guns in order to make them easier to pick up and this has made them less fun and interesting. before you had to think about timing and peaking and being efficient with leading and hitting shots, now the skill ceiling has been lowered to where it just feels like a burst gun with no room or use for the right click. i do agree that they needed a buff but this was the wrong way to do it, making it more like other weapons was not the solution.

i have thought a lot about this and think i know how they should have handled buffing this and how it could have made it more mainstream without ruining and dullifying them.
return left click to its previous state and up the right click damage from 140 to 149.
i think the reasoning behind the buff was to bring the ttk up to two cycles on light and medium, however since it was the left click that was buffed it has become the only necessity to achieve that. rather than being skilled enough to use both to gain the upper hand you just left click twice and they are done. resetting the left click and upping the right click to 149 would keep the same need to 2 shot lights whilst also adding the ability to 2 cycle mediums by being able to synergize both fire types together. this would reward the high risk high reward playstyle that rewards pre-fire, precision and timing i have come to love with these whilst also having an effective buff that keeps the throwing knives uniqueness intact.

these are just my opinion, feel free to disagree, however i think this is the right way to go about buffing them, because we all know they are going to be nerfed or changed next week, i just hope they do it for the better and don't ruin my favourite part of the game.

Agreed. It's a shame when unique things get worked to make them more popular. It's okay for something to be rare and enjoyed by a few. I enjoyed throwing knives the way they were, much like I enjoy bows/crossbows in other games. Sadly most people only chase the meta, so that means a rework for the knives.

yeah, they seem to want it to be more mainstream which i kinda get, they were good before though. as i said the only buff needed to perfect them and make them balanced as i feel they were slightly on the weak side compared to xp and m11 would be to give the 2 cycle potential with the right click if you were good enough to hit it, right now its just possible with only left making right completely useless

I, too, am a throwing dagger afficionado. I sort of thought all it needed was a small damage boost to be perfect and or the option to hold your right mouse.

I kill TK people all the time i don't see the issue. its just a matter of countering and planning.

+1 here.

I also prefer old knifes. New one felt samey with guns and etc. i didn't mind the delay but it was just not doing great damages to land hits and to be able to come up on top in intense gun fights. and i do like the hold right click idea as it charges it. not just kept on throwing things.
I think the main issue with knives is that they're just outclassed by lights other options. I imagine that's why they felt a need to buff them
