I think if they were more transparent on why they added this program and why they chose nexus of all thing they could have, I'd be more trustworthy. But to me, this is just another backdoor vulnerability on my pc while doing nothing to stop cheaters in game.
I see nothing wrong. If there weren't so many sad, lonely, inadequately equipped, desperate for love cheaters infecting seemingly every game, developers wouldn't have to keep making these decisions in an attempt to stay ahead. Don't blame the (somewhat) solution, blame the cause. No matter what a developer does, there are always 'living with mom' warriors who think they know how to run a multi-million dollar company better.
As for performance, I'm running a 10th gen i7 with a 1660ti and have found it smoother now. No hesitations at all.
