it's strong on 1v1. But like most game with that kind of stuff, it's weak in 2v2 or 3v3.
You can also use utility, or run away on a 1v1

I was actually at a loss, too, but then I saw a teammate shoot a rioter's feet out during a death cam. I haven't seen enough rioters since to try it myself, but you could try that. Maybe their feet have been unprotected this whole time?

Besides that, pretty sure explosions and elementals still work. If you're on Medium, mines, turrets, and noob tube should do the trick. Heavy's flamethrower, RPG, and C4 as long as they're not fired directly into the shield. Any gas or flame grenade or mine. Not sure what Light can do besides satchel charge.

No you can't break the shield but they have to be touching you to do damage so in a team based game they're only really dangerous against a person that goes off on their own.

Not really, they're strong as long as they can get close. You're pressured to either shoot or run away from a melee enemy that's too close to you, but the rest of his team can still shoot you while you're dealing with it. Rioters are still Mediums, they usually aren't alone.

If you know there's a melee enemy your team should be setting up for a pincer style play. With mines and goo grenades to control entries, even small buildings can be set up so that someone has a shot at the enemies' backs.

You're not wrong, but that's probably too advanced for most randoms.

They should remove riot shields from the game. They're cheap and there's no 1 v 1 counter in the original loadouts.

Riot shield main here, sorry we're annoying lol.

Explosives are a huge counter, gas and fire will zone us out HARD, and for some reason melee weapons go right through the front of the shield most of the time so that's pretty effective.

I only play shield so maybe someone can correct me here, but the heavy's charge will insta kill me 10 times out of 10 if I block it but will push me back without killing if I don't block it; so if you're a heavy try shooting shielders and then charging when they block. Not sure if this is accurate, as I've only had a single match where a heavy would do this to me and it rocked my ♥♥♥♥.

Stay mobile, don't dump your bullets into my toes if I have full health, and if you see a teammate shooting me make sure you help by trying to get around to my back or side-I can't block both of you. Just don't shoot mindlessly at my shield, cause the moment you go to reload you're dead.

If you're a light player without a melee, run. I two hit you and believe me I will run through hell just to take you out of the fight. Shield players need to think outside of the box due to our limited range, so careful chasing. I always drop a mine when I retreat or try to set up an ambush.

Absolute best counter to riot shields is teamwork. While spam crouching helps A LOT as a shield player, it's still challenging to kill two players at once without some mine tomfoolery. If a shielder keeps getting in your face and is abusing crouch spamming, don't take the fight if you're alone unless you're a full health heavy. The devs need to address the crouching with shields cause it has secured me way too many kills. I'd really like to see what it looks like from the enemy's perspective cause it's so wild to me that most players stop dealing damage to me when I start spam crouching in their face.

Lastly, I try to double as both an initiator and a medic. Idk if this is what other shielders do, but keep an eye on a shielder's dead teammates cause there's a good chance they're their target.
