Look around reddit and in here.... its dumb but unplug any controllers (or things that register as controllers), some reports of wireless mouse/keyboard dongles causing have been mentioned, and if you have a keyboard that registers as a controller like a wooting keyboard that can pose an issue too), and turn off bluetooth. Some wireless controllers over wifi have caused the issue too... essentially play w/ just mouse and keyboard. Bet your problem stops.
I can plug in a controller and watch my temps (on a VERY good cooled (360 rad lapped water cooled cooler/clean machine/plenty of airflow with slight positive pressure because I have pets) go from 50's at menu to 85 and start slowly climbing. As soon as the controller is unplugged, right back down to 50.
Try running it with dx11.
Right click the finals in your game launch menu, go to properties, copy and paste this in launch options.

This solved my random crashes, but mine weren't near as frequent as yours sound
Most of the time when a PC shuts down it's mostly due to a Power Supply. Unless you literally have the worst air circulation in the entire history of PC gaming. When most modern cases have adequate amount of fans. This maybe not be the case. Unless he needs to put new thermal paste or didn't put the AIO on correctly or it's going faulty. It literally recommends a 750W with an i7 CPU for a 3070 Ti. He's kinda pushing it. CPU temps are designed to reach 100 Celsius before they trigger a shut off. You seriously think his temp is hitting that high on this game? It's possible but I highly doubt it, unless this game has an issue with temps spiking up. It's why I also suggested checking his temps next time he runs the game, as well as check the error in the event viewer. When it comes to power supplies. You always want more head room.
As someone who has worked in tech for 30 years, you are 100% incorrect. It CAN be, but MOST the time is a false statement.
With the known issue with controllers going around, if he has one hooked up and isnt AT LEAST AIO'd with good ventilation, yes he will be hitting 100 easily.
Then I'm not 100% incorrect when it CAN be. You might want to get a new degree in tech then. Cause a lot of the time it's the PSU when a PC hard shuts down. Unless it's a temp problem and the CPU is hitting 100 Celsius, to trigger Intel's overheating. Hence why I suggested many things such as the PSU, temps and to read the error in the event viewer.
Your statement of MOST the time is... its not rocket science. It COULD be, but 90+% of the time its not. If you think <10% is most, every math teacher you have ever had has failed you horribly.
That's because most of the time it's those two issues. PSU or overheating. I said them both.
