Why do I get penalized for their servers and/or code not working correctly...

Even if I manage to reconnect after 20-50 attempts or so, I get spawned as a medium class with a default loadout instead of the character that I used to queue up with.. And the match may not be winnable anymore at that point.

Had that once.
Game crashed on launch and reconnect resulted in a medim with healing gun, goo grenade, jump pad and defib.
The worst thing was, they mixed up the keybindings for the gadgets, random order but still was kind of fun!
You could easily fix that in the next round, if you could ever reconnect to round 2 that is.

I got hit by a -100 fame and 10 min ban for a not so uncommon game crash and that isn't ok.
We even won by a landslide!

Not if you want to play a light or heavy, you're stuck playing a medium for the remainder of the tournament. That is, if you can reconnect at all and if it doesn't happen again next round.

The solution for me was to remove your contestants and remake them, i read that it was some kind of a skinbug

happen to me today, reconnected the first game to default loadout and after that was unable to reconnect to the second game
