i tried playing on my DDR cabinet. It works pretty well but could use a dance pad mode

It feels pretty good playing on a DDR pad. The biggest issue is that if you want to shadow step you have to do it on the dead panel or you are going to trigger overhits. I think a DDR pad mode where you can hit the arrows when there are no monsters there without penalty would be nice.

Shadow stepping is when you step even when there are no notes. It is usually done to keep your timing or to make difficult patterns easier to time.

yeah I do it all the time in other rhythm games, its a hard habit to hold back in this game lol, but I do understand why they don't allow it in this engine. :slugcatdead:

Yeah I 100% agree it should be part of the normal game, that's part of the challenge and the design.

For DDR pads though it would be a cool feature to turn that off so you don't have to rely on the center panel so much. They could make it so when you are playing that mode you can't score on the leaderboard since it would obviously be easier.

Yeah that would be a nice QoL for sure, maybe they can look into that in the future.

Fellow DDR pad player (but not on this game yet).
I've found shadow steps keep your heart rate up and let you do trills and other note-heavy sections easier. It also helps a ton with ensuring you're still on-rhythm.
I also think it'd be neat to have a no-score mode where you can step extra times, though also playing on a pad where I have to carefully manage every step has been kind of exciting in its own way. I have to keep my feet firmly planted and really pay attention to each step.
