Wrist Strain?
I've been playing on Hard Mode and I cant get through more than a song or two without my wrists feeling sore, using arrow keys with up and down switched.

Have any of you found a control scheme that feels comfortable to play for longer periods of time?

I think if you try splitting the conrtrolls between 2 hands it can help

i use WASD plus arrow keys. others have used WASD with JKL but for me my hands are too close with that setup.

yea hard mode you absolutely need to use both hands
I use DFJK (mapped to left up down right) because i use it for other rhythm games, so I'm already accustomed to it. It also splits the controls between 2 hands which helps a lot.

I keep my keyboard sideways on my seat between my legs, kind of like holding a guitar. I use the arrow keys with the up and down arrows switched ( I don't usually use the up arrow anyway ), and my right arm just rests on my leg. That feels great for me; I could barely get through a song having my keyboard on the desk.
left hand only left arrow and up and right with button on a ps4 controller, also using in fast action all 3 button instead the down button
I'm a freak. For my left hand, I use D for left, F for down, space for activate. And the weird part is the second bit. For my right hand I use numpad 4 for down, numpad 5 for right, and right arrow key for activate (If I feel like using that instead.) This is based on the configuration I use for DJMax which splits the work between my left and right hand. My middle fingers use the left key with my left hand, and the right key with my right hand. My index is used for both down inputs, and my thumbs for both activate inputs. I'm right handed so I tend to default to using my right hand for down inputs, but being able to share them is nice anyways.
Yeah my fingers get a bit cramped...I tried a few options and the best seems to be IJKL with the keyboard on my lap. Splitting between both hands doesn't feel right but it's clear it will be necessary for Impossible difficulty.
Okay so taking in all the suggestions I tried to make the small adjustment of letting the index of my left take over pressing left on the arrow keys and that already makes a huge difference. DFJK is something I used in 4 button rhythm games before with no issue but it felt awkward in a 3 button game

One tip I have is to kind of slap the keys and use your whole hand, don't just twitch the individual fingers. To avoid an RSI you want to use your arm muscles for movement as much as possible. It's also very satisfying!

Make sure your keyboard is sturdy and/or cheap, though!

been thinking of buying a guitar hero controller for this

You could try controller. I've been using both the dpad and the other buttons which are both enabled at once. The only issue I've found is being unable it seems to combine say left + triangle + circle for a three note, I really do wish it would work, so I have to rely on just pressing down which trips me up a lot.

But yeah, I say that as personally someone who can handle a LOT more controller use than playing games on a keyboard.
btw I definitely recommend splitting between both hands, it's made the game a lot easier.

I am now using A for left, JK for up and right. TAB to activate the power thingy.
My advice would be to get a low profile keyboard.
It's not only good for this game but pretty much any games on PC.
A low profile keyboard means your wrists don't have to be as tilted as a regular keyboard.
It's not a remedy but it helps.

Myself I'm using controller with Dpad left being for left lane, B on an X-box controller for right lane, Y button for middle lane and A button for "hit all three lanes". I'm still experimenting with the setup, but weirdly I think my muscle memory from playing Mooncat in UFO 50 is actually coming in handy here.

Thanks Mooncat. You freaking weird, weird weird game.
