Off-beat enemies... why?
In this game, the notes (or, 'enemies'), unlike basically every other rhythm game, move in brief bursts in accordance to the beat. This is a fine design choice and makes the game more unique/interesting, and feels very satisfying once you get it down.

So why exactly are there enemies that say "♥♥♥♥ this!" and just move however the hell they want?

In any other game, this would be fine since the notes just move normally. But here, the off-beat and on-beat enemies will both hover right in front of the action line, waiting for their turn to move. It becomes a memory game instead of a rhythm game.

I should be rewarded for playing and mastering the beat, not having to deal with these guys who feel more like bugs than anything.

There could've been enemies that specifically only move on-beat. Or some coloration. Some visual effect. But no, all you have are these different blue shadows which you have to figure out what they mean (while you're being swarmed by 90 different enemies moving at 3-4 different beat paces.

These guys need massive changes to feel like they actually feel apart of the song and not like they're out of place invaders. Or an option to disable them entirely and have them actually follow the grid which the game is designed on.

If neither of these things happen, then any songs with them in high amounts will go down as the most hated songs in the game, as is already happening right now.

Hmm, the fact that you're referring to blue shadows means you may not have downloaded our latest demo! We've made some big changes :) I encourage you to check it out!

it's a rhythm game, so mechanics that change up the rhythm are to be expected

the offbeat enemies will always be halfway in between one beat and the next, so if you can see them coming you can know in advance when you'll have to hit them, just like regular enemies (except in harder levels which have enemies that move in the quarters)

(+the current demo make it easier to tell offbeat enemies apart! they have a diamond underneath them instead of a blue circle)

u know theres more than circle/triangles shapes right? that kinda implies theres more offbeat rhythms you need to keep track of

Do you have an example where you think off-beat enemies are very egregious? I only learned about the different shapes yesterday while browsing the forums, but before then to me it didn't feel like enemies were off-beat, but more like they were additional instruments that enriched the beat.

I've not played the hardest difficulty yet, but so far from what I've seen the 'off beat' enemies are just off from the standard beat of the song, they are not some random pace or anything and they match up with the audio of the song pretty amazingly well.

When I first saw them I thought they were a problem as well until I started to trust my *ears* for them instead of my eyes. My eyes tell me what enemies are coming and where, my ears tell me when they need to be pressed. If you find the off-beat enemies to be a problem it's likely because you are playing by eye-only and not by ear.

Enemies in this game move in short bursts, so even ones that arent on the same beat will stand on the same lines briefly. This becomes a problem when you have on-beat and off-beat enemies on the line right before the action line, because its basically a guessing/memory game as to which of them will move first.

Hard/Impossible Difficulty & Glass Cages spam the ♥♥♥♥ out of this, so it feels utterly nightmarish at times.

Ive had moments where im vibing with a song, off-beat enemies come, ruin it, and then it goes back to normal enemies and im back to vibing. It's very noticeable and painful.

There's a part near the end of glass cages where its like 20-30 seconds of no off-beat enemies and it feels amazing. And you're just like - 'damn. if only the whole song couldeve been like this.'

No, not "You". "I". This is what you want, not anyone else. The lower difficulties have far fewer offbeat enemies, so you can stick to those if you dislike challenge.

You are saying that it's bad design for the music game to have you hit notes to the music. That is not bad design.

The off beat monsters can definitely be tricky! It takes a combination of understanding the music and practice to get it. If it gets too frustrating, a break is always helpful.

We like off beats a lot and think they are a necessity for being able to create fun and complex charts, but if you don’t like them, we’ll be providing our dev tool at launch and you’ll be able to make your own charts to your liking!
