Ichiban is the new MC of the franchise and made his first appearance in Y7. You won't appreciate Ichiban and his history as well as his exclusive returning side-characters FULLY just by playing Y8.
There's going to be many things in Y8 that is going to a "point back" to Y7.
So, ..............................no you don't have to play all the games were Kiryu is the MC. It's not needed at all. However, I would strongly recommend you play Yakuza 7 first.
Thanks a lot!!! I will follow your advice!!! X)
No problem. Just to avoid any confusion....... Yakuza 7 is called Yakuza Like a Dragon.
This was actually my first game in the series.
However, I would highly suggest to start with Y0 to see if you like it or not. Then if you like it play Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3-6, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon: Gaiden, and then Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth
Also you can just buy Judgment or Lost Judgment - different titles and you can enjoy them, they are both in Kamurocho, graphics are the same mostly as in Kiwami 2 or Yakuza 6 or Yakuza Like a Dragon, story is great, combat is very good too.
Plus you can try Ishin someday, but it's another story, and I think it's not very liked in community, however I like Ishin personally.
