At least now you know that those enemies should probably be taken out fairly quick, make sure your defensive gear's up to scratch as well, maybe grab the Hero job skill that makes 1-shots leave you at 1 health instead, too.
What was your defense like? If both your gear was weak and your current job not that high on defense, then that'd probably explain it.
I know the enem(ies) he's talking about. It's the heavy hitter tank archtype. They are the RnG stat checkers of this game. U can't take them out quickly lol. They are the tankiest enemies with massive health and defense stats but also relatively slow in terms of agility and their heaviest hitting attacks tend to have a one turn wind up. I would put the giant guy with the bat, the fat drunkard with a wooden bucket on his head and maybe the spikey golden ball guy in that archtype. There's still a chance to get one shot by them even if you're slightly stronger than them, especially if the bat guy winds up AND crits. Luckily I've never had them 1 hit Ichiban or Kiryu but even being massively over equipped and a bit over leveled seeing a charged up bat crit chunk half your hp is amazing.
The way to deal with them is:
A) Out stat them
B) Defend, use buffs/debuffs and perfect block to survive
C) Interrupt them with status afflictions (Stun or charm. Paralyze is risky) or Rage to have them aggro someone else
General hint: Make sure to wipe out the weaker mobs first to clean up other variables in the fight. Do not focus down the big guy first unless you can actually do it in 1 turn or believe the other mobs are an absolute non-issue. Bad RnG from the other mobs can easily leave you vulnerable to a 1 shot or an important party member hit with a status effect.
Wow spoilers.
The Ex dungeon boss fights are laughably easy because of how the fight is structured. That's what happens when you essentially have to balance a fight by splitting 1 boss into a bunch of minibosses and throw them at us. Each individual has less hp than a normal boss would. Take 1 down and suddenly the boss fight gets easier. Land an aoe attack and you're technically doing 2x, 3x, etc more damage depending on how many you hit compared to a normal boss fight. Since I already had Dondoko Beam on Ichiban's side and that dragon ultimate attack on Kiryu's side, along with tag team attacks, I sweeped the fights pretty easily. Even being underleveled I beat both, while the previous 4v1 boss fights I would get stuck in a slow battle of attrition.
If I were to rank threat levels if you are at the correct level/equipment I would put:
Mini boss with a bat wind up attack crit > Ono Michio from the second lowest level of the Hawaii dungeon> Baldy from the second lowest of the Yokohama Dungeon > Ono Michio team > Amon team.
The only thing special about the Amon team is that they can revive each other, especially if you kill them before they use their tag team attack. I just find Ono Michio harder to deal with due to laser eyes and how resistant he is to status effects.
I have been 1 hit ko by the cultist sujimon before. so Now I will dedicate a slöot for 1 shots for safety measures.
