PSA: You don't need the DLC to get all achievements
You can get the "Infinite Wealth" achievement for completing all other achievements, that includes the one you get for raising Ichiban's level to 70, I got it just yesterday.

The DLC achievements will still show up, but that's just how Steam handles them, not much you can do about it.

So if I understood this correctly, the achievements tied to DLC don’t show up at all until you purchase them? Are they listed under a DLC specific category, at least?

Those achievements still show up, you need the DLC to 100%. What OP is most likely referring to is the "Infinite Wealth" achievement.

Indeed! What some might call the "platinum".

Because obviously, if you can't get your 100% without shelling out for abusive DLC, no one should hold that against you.

Nothing abusive about it. This has been the policy on New Game+ since the first Yakuza game. NG+ has always been considered an extra feature and not part of the base game.

Wrong, NG+ has been a base feature ever since 2 - that includes 2, 3, 4, Dead Souls, Kurohyou 2, 5, Ishin, 0, 6, Kiwami 1, 6, Lost Paradise and Kiwami 2, while in 7 it was DLC for Japan and entirely absent in Gaiden

NG+ has always been a base feature, and there's no excuse for selling it as DLC now. I could maybe understand if it was a more transformative experience with new enemies, combat scenarios and new attacks for bosses, but this is just the same game again with higher levels

There's no reason to defend this kind of DLC practice unless you're a SEGA exec, because they're screwing *you* over

No, it hasn't. The only reason the Western Audience got it included in their version was because the games didn't come out internationally until a year, sometime 2-3 years, after its release in Japan. Where NG+ was always DLC. We got lucky with Yakuza Like a Dragon.

NG+ should always be considered part of the base game. even if you don't like the idea of NG+ being a DLC feature, I think you're wrong when you say it's not abusive.

what other games besides Yakuza keep NG+ as a DLC exclusive? probably not many, because it's ultimately a pretty selfish move by the developers to lock what should be a base game feature behind a paywall. and gaming studios already do some stupid selfish ♥♥♥♥ as it is.

if a game doesn't include a NG+, that's different. it definitely sucks, but at least the game in topic wouldn't be holding it hostage until we get out our wallets and pay even more money for what may have been an already expensive as ♥♥♥♥ product.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I still don't see it as abusive. Nor is it even a necessary part of any game.

NG+ being DLC was the case with 7 and 7 only, inform yourself better

I feel like this thread is clickbaity as hell, and not really true.
If it was worded as "you don't need DLC to get the basegame platinum achievement", then sure. Even though steam doesn't really have "platinum" or such, sure. Functionally you will be left with a game that does not have the perfect ribbon though.
To say you can get "all achievements" without DLC is just blatantly wrong though. Steam does not separate achievements at all, and as such, you CANNOT get 100% on steam without the master vacation pack, with the NG+ and DLC Dungeon achievements.

It would be more accurate for the "Infinite Wealth" achievement to say 'all non-DLC achievements' yeah, but steam achievements really don't have much impact compared to PSN or Xbox ones, and so said achievement doesn't really have any innate purpose by itself. You can't add games to a perfect showcase unless you have the ribbon, and they won't show up as complete unless you have the ribbon, after all.

I'm not the one that needs to inform themselves better. I know my history when it comes to this franchise, and it has always been DLC in Japan.

It hasn't. It was only the case with 7. 0 didn't have a NG+ DLC, K1 doesn't have a NG+ DLC, K2 doesn't have a NG+ DLC, should I continue?

♥♥♥♥♥, I got a Japanese copy of Ishin and I can clearly see its not DLC. You do need to inform yourself
