How accurate is the map?
As far as I'm aware, the other locations in the Yakuza series are pretty faithful to their real-life counterparts. So I was curious how faithful Honolulu is to the real life location. I tried cross-referencing the map with google maps like the other Yakuza locations but its hard to pinpoint the exact location the game takes place in vs the locations I'm finding on the map. Has anybody else documented the similarities/differences between the game and real life?

If you look on google maps/earth search Waikiki and that is the general area the game takes place in. it has the Ala Wai Canal that goes through the middle of the map and along the top

Everything except for little Japan is accurate

Really interesting to hear!!! I was able to stumble upon this video by random chance that talks about some of the real life brands/stores in the game and comparing them to their real life counter-parts. Unfortunately the video is entirely in japanese but it still shows pictures https://youtu.be/HKcF7y_vdkE?si=vUsOGVyLXfyl01nM

I live here in Honolulu about 5-10 minutes from where this takes place, and yeah, it's pretty spot on. Everything is immediately recognizable and I already knew my way around the map. Some things got added, and names changed around (The "Anaconda Mall" IRL is the Ala Moana Mall), but it's all there. Right down to the actual interior of stores.

That's really awesome. Do you think RGG Studio got the atmosphere of Honolulu down right?

Oh 100%. It's really obvious that people either visited here for a while, or at some point lived here. (Hawaii has a very large "straight outta Japan" Japanese population)

I've only visited Honolulu multiple times, but I feel they took some liberties and it's not 1:1. I could be wrong, but for example I noticed that there's no marina in front of the Prince hotel, there's not equivalent of the Royal Hawaiian (or I haven't recognized it) etc. I noticed similar things before comparing Kamurocho and Shinjuku.

Not a bad thing, just an observation, and there definitely are more similarities than differences.

It wouldn't surprise me if its not 1:1. If I'm not mistaken, its the same way for the other maps they've created in the past

It's not copy and paste, no. For example, the Crystal Aloha Resort at the end of Aloha Beach does not exist. That's an amalgamation of like three nearby hotels in real life made for the game, probably so they don't get in trouble with pinning an actual location as (spoiler). It's not Google Maps, but yes it's like 90% accurate.
